a/c compressor not kicking on

recently re-installed my engine.

finally got to the point where i needed a/c so i knew it neededto he filled.

i brought it to a shop to vacuum and fill.

a/c compressor didnt go on.

read a bunch of stuff on here about the gap. i measured 0.33mm (range was .3-.5mm) i took the spacer out and the a/c started to spin, but no cold air. so rathwr then blowing compressor up i put it back in.

coming to you guys for help. could the magnet be bad? i tested the wires and the compressor is getting power when i turn the switch.

i dont know if oil was added to the system or not. maybe the compressor is shot?

i bought that ac gauge kit from harbor freight and hooked it up. it said i had pressure in both gauges but i dont know how to use it. just read numbers.

jm assuming that the gauges tell me its full and there isnt a leak.

Did you happen to notice if the AC fan, at the condenser was coming on when you turn the AC on?

With the gauges installed and ac on, record what the pressure readings are for the low and high sides.

I don't know what the ambient temperature is where you're located, but 60psi is low here in the Florida summer. Those pressures, with the compressor not running should roughly equal you're outside temperature. You should try jumping the low pressure switch and see if the compressor comes on. If it does, you need more refrigerant in the system.

Use an a/c machine to recover the refrigerant. It will tell you how much (weight wise) that
It recovered. Then you will know how much was in the system. It can then be filled to spec with the same machine.

what about if your system has been opened for about 2 years? my condenser broke so i just bought one and a drier and am about to install it and try to go through this whole process...after all this time the compressor has not seen use...would it still work?

Spin the compressor by hand to make sure it's free. Assuming the compressor is still on the car, it should still have oil in it. I do t see why it wouldn't unless you see something glaring wrong.

When refilling your system you should have it done professionally with a good long vacuum cycle to get all of the moisture out.

The compressor was never taken out of the car...what actually broke was the stud on the top line that goes to the condenser so it won't seal well...everything is still on the car...my buddy has done it before so we're renting the stuff from autozone to do it... Hopefully it'll work...
