Amen to that. I can't figure out why it's so hard to attract newcomers to these events. People spend thousands on go-fast mods to their cars and never learn how to drive the damned things properly. When they do drive hard, it's usually just racing around on city streets...which are full of traffic, potholes, stupid drivers, and cops. They're putting their cars and licenses on the line for a thrill that lasts a few minutes.

But then they balk at the idea of spending a couple of hunded bucks to do a proper driving school...where they can drive as hard and as long as they want in a safe, controlled environment, surrounded by people who are as motivated and alert as they are. Every track junkie I know (including me) has a story of how some skills they learned at a driver's school has saved their *** on the street. I'd rather put $400 into a driving school than pay the $500 insurance deductible on a wreck I could have avoided.

Wierd.

I think there is a lot of intimidationa and fear. I try to explain those are the last things someone should feel about these events. It is a bizzare thing so many are so trepid...
