From: Why do they always call the Evo the Dark Side?
It's 2016 and I'm 24 and in the market to purchase my first evo.
Specifically a used IX, exciting
However, I'm curious about what people are paying for in terms of their insurance, whether it's an arm or a leg, or perhaps both!
I often hear various stories about how expensive it is to insure an evo.
I know there are multiple factors that insurances look at such as is it garaged, driver's age, location, etc- just wanted to get some thoughts, share of experience.
Thanks in advance!

you're probably assigned to one of the "cheaper" cars as your primary. if i add my civic to the same policy as the Evo, i'd only pay $5 more/mo than i do for just the Evo. the reason being, the civic would be my primary.
and i forgot: my policy may be a bit less because i claimed to only drive 5k miles per year.

Same with mine. Anyone who drives either of my cars is covered. But, with my insurance company, when they write the policy up, each person is assigned to a car as their primary. It doesn't mean you have to only drive that specific car, it's just how they write it. Kinda like how I have to quote then how many miles I plan to drive. I'm not limited to that amount, it's just another way they find to get the rates lower. So, if I add my civic to my AAA policy, it would be changed to my primary instead of the Evo. Insurance on the Evo would drop almost enough to cover the civic. It's a pretty cool deal. In fact, my agent told me she has a client who bought an old car that doesn't even run so he could add it to his policy as a primary. She says the Lambo cost too much on it's own LOL
i have pip...cheapest insurance just to be able to drive which is a ****ing rip off but whatever times r not too great and im a bit broke...im 31 and i pay $465 for 6 months with progressive...
My car does not see a lot of road driving these days. Also I only paid 10k for my evo so it is hard for me to justify spending 20+% of the cars purchase price on insurance.
I was rear ended last year and only damage was to the bumper skin, the other company paid me 1500 so I picked up a cf driveshaft
. I figure I am more likely to crash at the race track and my auto insurance will not cover anything there.
If my car was stock and super clean I would go full coverage for sure, but insurance would only pay out like 10k tops on the evo. I have saved that much on insurance over the last 6 years. I do a cost benefit analysis on everything before I hand my money over.

I'm 30 and paying $185/mo full coverage through USAA. 0 accidents, 1 speeding ticket, 1 wreckless driving, 2 suspended licenses and 1 failure to observe road signs. $500 deductible, rental and roadside assist.
i got a quote from Hagerty for $900/year. i was like WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??!! and that was with NO deductible. SOLD!
then i was denied. LOL
the reasons:
1. my daily driver is too old (2000 Honda Civic). it has to be no less than three years old, i believe they said
2. i drive the Evo too many miles. since i drive to/from the track, i shot a bit high and said i'd be driving 5,000 miles per year. they said they won't insure anything for more than 2500 miles per year.
i knew it sounded too good to be true LOL.
