Evo diff questions

Hey everyone I'm just a little confused about the front and rear diff. I have an evo 9 with acd so that means I have the ayc rear diff? I'm selling my acd xcase bc I want to buy a non acd xcase as well as a good rear diff. Now can I convert my rear diff to an Rs LSD rear diff? If I can then would I be able to keep the entire case and just swap the internals?

all the U.S. rear differentials are the same: mechanical LSD. ACD is in the transfer case and has nothing to do with it.

Yes but doesn't the acd xcase send fluid to the red diff? So I need a non acd diff

I give up.

Take the car to a reputable shop, tell them what you are wanting to do, and they'll make it happen.

AYC is what controls the rear diff, not ACD. Everywhere else, Evo 8/9 GSR/MR had AYC if it had ACD. Every Evo 9 in US (and worldwide?) has ACD without AYC, which means it is already JDM/USDM RS-spec, and therefore has a mechanical rear differential with no hydraulics. ACD is a god-send compared to the old viscous garbage. What are you trying to do?

Thank you!! Finally
I'm trying to build a drag car. From what I have read on the forums previously people say keeping the acd is pointless and breaks easier than a non acd transfer case

It's cheaper to replace the non-ACD transfer case, probably the main benefit to the swap. The "RS" front helical LSD is what makes it attractive instead of the GSR's open front differential. Put a front LSD in any Evo 8 transfer case and you'll be fine.

Ok so I can keep the rear diff I have and just get a evo 8 non acd xcase with the helical LSD. Now do they sell a kit to rebuild the rear diff to make that like new or stronger?
Thanks again u are helping me a lot

Yes, your rear LSD is the one to keep. TRE's MaxGrip rear LSD rebuild is a solid upgrade.

You are going to have a rough adventure building that drag car if you don't learn to use the search function and do your own research before asking questions. A couple good threads to get you started:

Really? Because last time I checked asking a few questions about the same part isn't "not using the search function". I've done plenty of research and that's exactly how I learned how to take my engine, tranny, suspension, basically everything out of my car. This was the only thing I needed help with and sorry if I'm using this forum for what it's for, helping fellow evo owners. With that said I would appreciate it if you would keep your opinions out of this thread.

Thanks again for the help, it seems nowadays people would rather give attitudes than advice.
