Evo IX Key Issue
Evo IX Key Issue
Hey everyone!
I'm having a key/ignition switch issue that reoccurs from time-to-time in my IX that I'm trying to figure out.
The issue only occurs when I'm turning off the car and I'm going to remove the key. For some odd reason, the key tends to jam and does not come out. After several times of turning the key back and forth, it eventually comes out.
My initial guess is that there is something wrong with my ignition switch and I might need to get it replaced but I wanted to ask on here first before I make any assumptions/purchases.
Thank you!

It gets stuck when you turn the key all the way back to where you would normally pull the key out? Are you trying to pull the key out too quickly before it "unlocks" or "releases" itself? Make sure when you turn the key back that you also simultaneously push the key in before pulling it out.
I don't see it being an ingnition switch issue unless your having trouble starting the car. to test it you can take the switch off and see if the issue still happens. another thing you can try that's cheap is graphite powder lubricant, you can find a small tube in any hardware store for a couple bucks.
My key does this all the time , when I first got the car I thought it had been possibly broken into until I found out its a regular occurrence with the evo's , once you get good at it you'll be able to get it out no problem, I got used to it , just try not to turn it all the way back when removing it
Thank you everyone for the quick responses. Sorry I haven't followed up with any new info. I'm guessing the problem might just be that I'm removing the key properly. When it "locks" up, the key is on the "ACC" position and doesn't want to turn back any further than that.
