Base Tune

I am looking for a little help. I am about to start my car after putting bigger cams and a new motor in it. I only have my old map. I am looking for a start up map and basically a map that i can drive around with to put 500 miles on low to no boost.. Any help would be great.

Is there any fueling differences? what were you using for boost control?

if your injectors / fuel setup hasn't changed. Just use your old rom, watch your fuel trims to make sure they arent outta whack and drive it around with very light throttle / no boost. If it has a hard time idling first make sure your trims look good, if so you can try adding a little timing in the idle region to help with the cams, if that doesn't help try raising the idle a couple hundred rpm. Also you should probably re-adjust your BISS screw using evoscan to help set the idle. Then once your done breaking it in get it tuned.

the stock map is the basis from which all others are derived from. The idea is you don't want to modify that which doesn't need to be, or stand to gain from it. Throwing some arbitrary map on your car stands to introduce more unkowns and potential problems then any possible benefits. You know what you had worked and chances are very little needs to be done to the low load areas to accommodate your changes. If you follow what i have laid out you will be fine until you can get it to a tuner to work out the high load stuff. The closed loop system will highlight any potential issues you are having with low load fueling in the form of your Long term fuel trims.

Search YouTube. There are some really good videos. I can't remember who made them though. There is a really good thread on here, too. Search a bit and you should be able to find it all.

It really depends on where you are starting from, and the type of fuel you are tuning with. 91 is easier because you can use the knock sensor as a reference but e85 will let you run more timing then you should without knocking. I would suggest learning how to take good logs and understand what they are telling you as a good first step.

Just curious, would use the torque curve to tune E85? once its starts to drop you know you've gone too far..etc? I don't have access to E85 very easily, but I was always curious about it.

the higher the octane rating the more timing that can be run, up to a point. When tuning you shoot for whats called MBT, which is basically the least amount of timing that gives the most increase in torque. Most pump gas however does not have the anti-detonation properties to get you all the way to MBT. So generally you will run the most timing that your fuel will support before detonating. Are you guys using RON for your octane rating? If so i believe 98 RON is comparable to US 93 octane.
