Extreme cases and "miracle finds" aside, you are willing to drop an insane amount on a car and are okay with it not being what you want??

You, my friend, must have money falling out of your butt.

No he doesn't....Or he wouldn't have an issue getting financing...lol.

So, you're willing to overpay for the car, then spend another 2500-3k on it in the future just so it will have the trans you want? That's is beyond nonsensical...

I've overpaid, twice, for vehicles that weren't what I wanted.
Years of regret. Trust me.

I did it with that civic si I had for like 7 months last year. I hated every minute of having that car...lol. I bought it because I needed a vehicle because the Evo was down, slightly overpaid for it, but it was cheaper than everything else I was looking at. Traded it in on the F150 in December. Couldn't be happier even though I had to throw away about $4k to do it...lol

Mine were over-priced, with high APRs because I hadn't established credit, yet.
But to be realistic, I was warned but was gonna do what I wanted anyway LOL.
I actually have history of making poor decisions because it's what I wanted. I didn't always regret it. So, I wouldn't really expect my advice to be followed either ha ha

It is not 100% my ideal Evo, no. But this one is about 95%.. With the amount of Evo 8/9's on the market and with them continually getting older I find my chances of finding that "100% unicorn" to be unrealistic.

And no, I wish I could shart money.. But I've never been against paying paying for something I really want. Maybe it is our perspectives that are differing here. As I keep mentioning, the way I look at it is that I could spend more on a new car and not be as happy as I could with an 8/9. Ya know? Or am I still crazy in your eyes?

Financing "issue" is simply NADA value vs actual market value. Check NADA for an Evo 9 w/ 26100 miles vs KBB. I've also looked all over cars.com, autotrader, ebay, bring a trailer, EvoM, auto tempest, etc etc. I have seem numerous Evo 8/9's above $32k.. A few of them were $35k!

KBB
http://www.kbb.com/mitsubishi/lancer...condition=good

NADA
http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2006/...-MR-AWD/Values

The Evo I am looking at is $30,800. I am just rounding up to $31k.

And regarding the 2.5-3k for a tranny, I was figuring when it came time to rebuild it. I wasn't just going to swap out a good tranny and spend the money then and there. Essentially, either way I would spend that money at some point ya know? Eventually the tranny will need rebuilt. (I am looking at this from a DD perspective first and foremost).

I have a somewhat similar tendencies actually However, I feel like I have weighed this situation back in forth in my head a lot. To me, the very low miles seems worth it.. Maybe I am crazy? Maybe not.

With all the opposing feedback that I am getting, I will dwell on this matter more. I promise you all that I am considering all of your input and that it is not simply going in one ear out the other. If you can't tell, I'm a rather stubborn person.. Sometimes I have to kick my ownself in the ***.

One more thing I have forgot to mention is that every credit union/lender that I have spoken to has always asked if the Evo I am looking for is at a dealer. Me thinks I would have big problems trying to get one from a private party unless I went with a personal/signature loan with high APR's (8% +)..

Private party just means they have to cut a check instead of sending the dealer an EFT. I've never had an issue getting a loan for private party sales through Wells Fargo or my Credit Union.

Long time lurker aroud here, however I just recently purchased an Evo so these are my first few posts.

First off, your probably better off searching for another Evo for that price point, as everyone else has been saying. $30k for a 10 year old car makes zero sense. You can find a lower mileage Evo ( maybe even a XI with SSL package ) for far less.

Financing evo's are possible but can be difficult for some. I went through my credit union and was approved no hassle for up to 20k. Had my choice of going to a dealer or private party with them knowing my vehicle purchase would be an Evo. I am now 29, and have wanted an Evo since they were fist released in the US.

Don't rush into. You'll find a good Evo for the right price if you keep looking.

I understand the situation more than most because my dad passed away, I was finishing college, at the time married (now divorced), had been wanting an Evo since my first drive in one in 2005, and I knew what I wanted. I found what I wanted except for the color, I wanted blue or white and they never made a IX SE in those colors. I decided to honor my dad in a way that he would have wanted after his passing by chasing down my dream car because it was in reach with the money that was left (used some of the money to not work full time so that I could finish college early).

I put down $5K and financed the rest through my Credit Union. I flew to Chicago from Georgia to get mine since the ones that I was finding in the south were junk or high miles. Mine had right at 55K miles on it when I picked it up and drove it back. I paid $24K for it almost three years ago.

Personally I think that the dealer is trying to rip you off at $31K for 26K miles. You are a little paranoid from your Jeep experience to be honest. One thing that I can't believe has not been said here is that you should have a reputable shop check out this Evo or any Evo that you look at, if they refuse to let you have this done at your cost then walk away from it. If you can't find a shop at the minimum have a Mitsubishi dealer check it out and have them do a compression check.

To find what you want you will have to be patient, it took me six months to find mine and I was searching daily on every site I could find. I got mine from Orland Toyota in Chicago and a few forum members went by and checked it out for me. I don't regret a single minute of waiting or since the purchase.

Hope this helps.

If it's 95% the Evo you want, offer them 95% their asking price.
Also, low mileage cars can be abused and blown up too.
With my current Evo, I offered what I was willing to pay. They refused at first, but I wasn't negotiating. After two days, they called me back. F those crooks. LOL
These aren't collector cars. Don't let them convince you otherwise. It's a 10-11 year old car.

You don't think it will be a collector car one day, i have been looking for a little over a year and the prices have been going up not down. I for one think they will be collectors items one day.

You are insane to pay 30k for a Evo 8/9. Absolutely.

This^ Just because it has low miles doesn't mean it's impervious to mechanical failure or abuse. Those 26,000 miles could have been hard miles.

31K is insane for an Evo... The Evo was my dream car too, but let's be honest here... It's a Mitsubishi not a used M3 or something that would make sense for that price. Take your time and don't rush into it, because most times after rushing into a "deal" like that you end up finding a much better deal a few months later and regretting your decision. Pay attention to what all of us are saying lol were not trying to keep you from your dream car, just trying to keep you from paying unjustifiable prices for it.

Collector? No. I think the prices will stay where they are or maybe go up, slightly. I think the Evo, FD, and S2k will hold their value, similar to the Supra.
But nothing we'll ever see at Barrett Jackson, etc.
