right side axle seal problems

Hey guys, my passenger side axle seal seems to keep leaking.
first time I replaced was with an aftermarket seal. leaked.
then I replaced with oem Mitsubishi, leaked.
Im planning to get a new oem one and a new axle and maybe it will stop leaking?

the oil is getting everywhere especially on my exhaust, never had this problem before.

yes they are installed correctly. installed 100 + axle seals in my career

OEM axle? Sometimes the aftermarket people supply the wrong axle.

Make sure you are using the correct seal. The left and right are different seals. For the front at least.

Over filling won't make those seals leak. Improper install does though. They need to be pretty much perfectly straight in the bore, and you have to be careful stabbing the axle in to make sure you don't mess up the seal.

I'm trying to remember where the vent is. On a DSM I thought I had a leaky axle seal. It was the vent. The fix was vent replacement.

Also, dont insert the seal too far or it will leak. Check its the seal for the right side and not the left. They are visibly different looking with close inspection.

^^^This, if the seal looks like its installed correctly and still leaks, ---exactly, its in too far. Done this myself.

The vent is all the way at the top of the shifter housing, it doesn't leak. I know this because mine fell off once when installing the trans, didn't notice it until sometime later.

There's one on the transfer too. Its to the rear of the axle and so should be obvious if the cause. However there's that little o-ring people keep forgetting to install.

i just replaced mine due to it sitting too far out, so the seal cover on the axle tore it off. when i put the new one in I used the caliper to measure the distance from the outside rim of the transmission/tcase to the top of the seal. i found that the best distance is between .25-.27 of an inch. i also used gasket maker to seal the "gap" of the seal and the transmission/tcase. one other thing that i noticed was the spring inside the seal if that's missing or slip off during the installation, it could be the cause of the leak. and since you have a caliper, why not measure the ID of the seal and the OD of the contact part of axle to see if there's any gap or any other fitment issue.
