Overboosting after evo 9 turbo swap

I just installed an evo 9 turbo thats been ported and upgraded and also installed a turbosmart wastegate actuator along with Grimspeed 3 port. Im overboosting 26psi Im wondering if I set the preload wrong or its because of the 3 port and no tune. I dont want to get on the dyno and have to deal with the wastegate..

Im not a tuning expert, but are you noting that you have changed the turbo & added a 3 port solenoid & you havent tuned it?

yah if you just plugged in a 3-port and where previously running the stock setup, you must get a tune. The systems are very different and require a lot of adjusting to work properly.

I know I need a tune guys, I worded that terribly. Im running the turbo a few heat cycles to break it in before the dyno. I know that i cant just slap it on, what I was getting at was, is there a way to determine if that is causing the overboosting or the wastegate, but im sure it is the 3 port.

well if you plumb a boost reference directly into the wastegate you should only boost up to wastegate spring pressure. I would caution against doing this unless you have a wideband and can verify you are in a safe afr range at any boost level.

Depending on what wastegate you got... the post above me is actually a good idea so you dont over boost past the wastegate spring rate which should be better than leaving it the way it is unmonitored without a tune until you do get a tune. Then i would plumb everything back to they way it should be and get the 3port setup into the tune. Of course do not try to boost it really hard but more safe than what you got now.

Your stock 2 port solenoid runs at 100% duty cycle and maxes at 20-21psi peak, if u just slap on a 3 port, you have 100% duty cycle on a system with no restriction, swap it back before you blow your motor.

You can leave the turbo on, just swap the 2 port back on. Or leave it as is and continue to over boost and let us know how that goes for you. Just tryin to help you out dude. You came on the forum to ask for help and if you don't take advice, why ask? Good luck.

What psi is the wastegate rated at? Hook up the wastegate directly to the jpipe nipple to bypass the 3port for now and it should run what the wastegate is rated at.

Change back to the 2 port until the day of tune. When I tune mine Tobz performance change it for me that day I was overboosting until he tune it.

I was asking if theres a way to determine if its from the wastegate or the 3port. Im not boosting, I know what could happen if I boost at WOT.
