I get no bubbling in the overflow, just normal engine vibration.

RIP. Head gasket blown. It's a slight leak, but a leak nonetheless.

Going to do water pump/Gates racing T belt with idlers and tensioners, ARP head studs, Cometic head gasket.

Can anyone else think of anything I should do while the head is off as far as general preventative maintenance, $5 part $1000 labor kind of things?

I'm guessing that the head gasket was just done after 150k miles, but the previous owner never noticed due to the fact that the car was never pushed hard and driven in a colder climate so it never overheated, and there are no fluids mixing.

That sucks I had a feeling it was the head gasket from the way you had described it but at least it's not head gaskets on a Subaru that sucks. The hole damn motor has to come out on those at least on the 4g63 it's a day or 2 max to get it done

Btw I would also get the head decked just in case it's warped at all from heating over heating most of the time if it's leaking you will need to deck it from my understanding

Grind the valves, replace any loose valve guides and new seals.

Yeah, of course with any head gasket job the head needs to be measured with a straight edge and usually decked.

Sounds like air in the system. Keep burping it.

I guess you missed the part where he said it was the head gasket.

Re torquing the head often fixes it...........no parts required.
