I'm curious on the cost and if 600 whp is viable or if 500 whp is more suitable for day to day life.

Hello / Welcome

Speaking in total generalities: 500 Dyno Jet WHP is on the very aggressive side for a stock block motor. 600 DJ WHP is beyond what is considered safe WHP on the stock block. Stock block WHP is best suited for the low to mid 400's (Dyno Jet measured)

Trying to achieve those higher WPH no.s (above 600) is an investment for sure ($8 to $10K USD minimum for a built short block, turbo & labor) (dependent on if you build & install yourself vs professional build & install)

The Evo 4 is not doing 500 on stock block. They barely hold together at stock power.

Well, you need a forged engine... Turbo kit, FP Black or 6266 turbo, a Transmission rebuild kit, LSD for transfer case and an Evo 8-9 rear diff with axles.

Depends on what type of fuel you're trying to get it done on.

The question is so broad, and that power can be achieved so many ways. I suggest you start researching and getting ready to open up your check book.

If money wasn't an issue what should be done to the lower half of the engine to support 600hp?

  • OEM Polished Crank
  • ER Balance Shaft Delete

  • Carrillo Rods + CARR Bolts
  • Wiseco Custom Anodized Pistons
  • 9:1 / 10:1 Compression
  • K1 Billett Crank
  • ACL Bearings
  • ARP Main Bolts

A basic forged engine build would be just fine, it doesn't have to be exotic or by a big name.

That list also leaves out all of the supporting stuff (turbo, manifolds, IC & piping, fuel, clutch, tuning, etc).
