I totally agree with you neil but when the consumer is not told about this PLUS his salesmen did not know either how is the consumer supposed to know to keep the receipts? I totally understand they need to cover themselves and I agree with it. But when the consumer is not told about this plus the sales/service people at the dealership knew damn well that this was my first BRAND new car and I had even spoken to them about changing my own oil and not once was it brought up by them to tell me to keep the reciepts for ANY service I did.

Also no one knows if it is rod knock. I questioned that also at the dealership it is at about having to replace the whole motor instead of just fixing the problem. Car runs just fine except for the knocking sound. No fluid leaks what so ever. Not even a consistent knock sound. If I start boosting it goes completely away or if I let off the gas it goes completely away from what I can hear. The only thing the dealer did was pull the dipstick, said the oil was dirty and left it at that and told me the warrenty will not cover. That was all. No other inspection what so ever. They also told me that weather I get the oil tested or not will not matter because I do not have all service records of my oil changes and just because I changed it this time doesn't mean that I have changed it before in the past.

If I do have to pay for this to get fixed I'm still debating if I'm going to do it myself or not. Hasn't been decided yet since the warrenty will go away if I do. Also I have no clue why they want to replace the whole short block. I questioned this also and they told me that mroe then likely I will need to cause when these motors go... they go which is bull****. But I will be taking it to another dealership to get it fixed since they said they will only replace what needs to be replaced.

I'm still waiting for the district DPSM to call me and see what he is going to say.

Man, I an so glad I didn't buy an EVO. Also, weather or not you changed the oil every 3000 miles is a pointless argument. A motor should not lose a rod if you skipped one oil change. I know you didn't skip one, but I'm just saying. BTW, where are you in PA and where did you get the car? Is it the same dealer that the car's getting looked at? I pity all the people that purchsed these cars, kept them stock, and are having all these warrenty issues.

You could always get your oil tested and send them the results to prove that the oil is in decent shape.

Meaning, you are proving that your oil is within spec of 5k or whatever.

Sorry if this has been stated, I can't read teh whole tread as I'm at work.

well if you havent changed the oil correctly in the past, i think they would have to prove that by going into the engine and seeing damage

I'm also glad I didn't buy one of these. Alot of car for the money, but It seems like they are having a lot of problems. I'll wait until they get some of the bugs worked out before considering one. Who needs headaches like this when you shell out high $20's?

A lot of problems? Where is this coming from. Other than some people burning up their clutches I haven't heard of any common problems.

Thats why this site is starting to go downhill. There only a handful of people who post things like < MY CAR BLEW UP! MY SPARKPLUG SHOT THROUGH THE HOOD! But it seems like that gets more attention then just a regular post. **** i have 6000 miles on my car no problems what so ever. FACT: ANY CAR YOU BUY WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!!!!If its not someone posting a something negative (which by the way in REAL LIFE may not even by true).I could post something on here tomorrow about my car negative which could be totally made up and people would respond. Now every post has the MR , MR this MR that. Its the same car. People post, man that thing is awesome looking LOL. Its the samething as the EVOs people have on this forum. I take things people post with a grain of salt (unless its a person who i see posting frequently and know what the hell they are talking about.

I don't know why some people here take things so seriously. I’m actually a big fan of the EVO and the 4G63 motor. I’ve owned 2 DSM cars, a 91’ N/T Talon and a 93 Eclipse GSX. That’s why I visit the site, if someone has a problem with that, it’s their problem, not mine. I don’t see any problem in someone visiting and posting in a forum that they’re interested in. I like to see what times the cars are running and what new mods for the motor are being introduced. I’m also in the process of getting together a project car, probably a 91’ Talon AWD or Eclipse GSX. I have the motor lined up, and will be looking for a car in the near future. O, and I don’t have a Dakota R/T anymore, I have a 4X4 Dakota, both which have never had any problems besides the rotors. I guess I’ll have to update my profile.

damn the first thing i learned when i got a new car was to keep all my records of service and maintanance. its really not that hard and mitsu has a point. its not there fault u can't prove that you've maintained your car. i knew this rule since i was 16, i don't understand this... even when u sell your car, you should provide the next owner with all the service and maintanance records its like a general rule, why do u have a problem with this ? its your fault not theirs. they have the right to question it and u have the right to back it up and the only reason u can't is ur fault.

Why don’t you see if you can find the receipts some where? Did you every use your VISA or a debit card to make the purchase because then you can go back to the bank and get your old statements. It might be a long shot but here in MA when we return the used oil to the place where we bought it they have us fill out a form nothing official. If you did anything like that when you return your oil maybe you could go to them and ask for a copy. It probably won’t prove you did you maintenance but it least it is worth a try.

Evo Spec... well I'm sorry not all of us are so knowledgable as you are. Obviously alot of people are finding this hard to believe also so its not just me. At least I'm being honest about it all and telling it straight. I could have done what i was thinking and just got a shop to write up some reciepts and said there you are and done it shady but no I didn't. And you know sometimes things get lost. Hell they wouldn't have accepted even one of them missing. But I'm sorry for my ignorance and posting also a potential FAULT of an Evo that could happen to anyone. Obviously I'm not the only one to have this problem since previously stated someones rod went, got a new short block and a few weeks later that one went also. This is supposed to be a forum for the good of the car and if no one posted these issues then guess what? YOU WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN WITH THE CAR. I'm sure that no one knows that these ars have a potential electrical issue that causes the cars to catch on fire. NHTSA is looking into my friends now after 600 miles driving down the road and the dash started on fire. Middle of winter, cold temps, bone stock. But hey maybe you don't care but others do and these types of forums if standing together can get things done. Look over at the stealth/3000gt community. They been have tranny and certainly transfer case issues since day one. Everyone got together and petitioned NHTSA to look into it and now there is a recall on it. Yes I know NOW that I should have been saving the receipts but I'm sorry as a consumer, we should be notifed of all thats needs to be taken care of for the car. Thats is their job. You don't like these post then don't read them and don't waste the time to write to them.

Outside Oil Changes

I read the three pages and I didn't see an answer. Were your outside oil changes done at a shop or did you do them yourself? Did you have any changes done at the dealer?

I did the oil changes myself because I can not vouch spending $80 some dollars on an oil change at the dealership nor the $50 at almost all the other regular shops because of using syn. oil

all i'm saying is that if u took the time to read over ur warrenty/lemon law book that comes with every new car, this could have easily been avoided and mitsu explains it clearly in that book. They expect people who care to read before getting into and driving vehicle. you chose not to read, there for it is your fault, that is my only point that i brought up. mitsu lays the rules down, u didn't play by there rules, u lose. end of story.

and no ur right i don't no about a potential fire issue and all this other stuff ur talking about but eventually if its true, it will be taken care of.

Yeah but how long would you like to wait and how much money are you willing to spend before you start to get the answers and solve the potential problems. And fine. I f-ed up. I didn't read the book... my fault. I'll end this post then and be done with it and no one learns anything (which I am a firm believer of and if you read my beginning post thats what it states -TO MAKE SURE TO KEEP ALL RECIEPTS). But remember the more people that bring up the issue of broken parts the more everyone knows could be a potential problem with the car. Look at the clutch issue. Granted more people are having the problem but that problems happens much earlier in the cars life. What happens after 36k miles miles when your warrenty ends and the motor goes? Even a car with 36k miles on it should not have a rod go or whatever the hell is wrong with mine.
