Need help deciding

For my Houston area guys, anyone running an fp green or red on pump gas. Curious to know how cars run in our area. Its been since 2007 since I upgraded my 04 evo 8. Its been on a TME 10.5 hotside on meth since then. Looking to service the turbo, and figured maybe its time to pull a little more hp out of her. Nothing crazy, and with 125k on the clock I feel the green might be too torquey(?) for her. Looking to do the "keep tq under 400." Want to make sure the red will be what I am looking for. My mods: Buschur Stage 4 with 680 pte injectors, 255 walbro, hks 264/272 cams, Forge internal wastegate (think its the 18 psi), SMC Methanol Injection. Sheppard Built 5 speed tranny and Center diff (done in 2008). Recently replaced timing belt, idler pulley and water pump. Forgot, have arp headstuds too

I am looking for better top end, and still responsive if I do any spirited driving in the hill country. I understand I can make more power with e85, but I have a few other toys that can scare the b'Jesus out of me, 72s30 (SBC with 150 shot, made 390/480hp 455/610tq--nitrous run spun tires), and a slew of Harleys to get my 2 wheel addiction taken care of.

The Evo was placed back into daily status. I am not in boost in commuting, but I do stretch out her legs when I get off work when traffic is light.

If anyone is interested in letting me ride or sharing experience with either of the setups, I would appreciate it.

I am almost ready to pull trigger on the Red, and MAPerformance is about to be real happy. Hoping to get feedback before the end of the weekend.

The MHI FP red would be a great choice for a street turbo. Not to torquey and has good top end. Hit up Chris Robbins (Turbo R US) or Tyler Gennari on FaceBook they can get you the same spec turbo for a better deal.

I don't know these turbos all to well but my basic understanding is red is bigger than the green and it will give you more hp and torque but it won't happen until later in the RPM range. I just haven't heard of a bigger turbo producing less torque than a smaller one. If someone could please tell me why this is the case that would be great.

Either way I think as long as you were not pushing the boost way up you would be totally alright with the red from what I have heard people have pushed their stock aged internals quite a bit. But I am still new to the whole FP and Mitsubishi line of turbos so don't trust me lol.

It may be the same wheel diameters, but it's not the same.

So it's not a "better" deal. It's a lower price for product that isn't as good from someone who uses terms that FP coined a long time ago.

Thanks for the posts. Was not able to find anyone with such short notice regarding riding in an fp red or green.

So after going cross eyed searching, and researching, I pulled the trigger on an FP Red. With the help of Matt over at MAP, I'm sure he got tired of all the email back and forths, I made decisions on what to buy to get my evo running with a little more pep.

Since I will be on pump gas, and most likely staying with methanol injection, got supporting mods as well. FIC 950 injectors, ets standard intercooler was ordered. I was already Stage 4 Buschur, so just updating a few things

Also picked up a JDC COP at a good price, with discount code, thanks CZero!

Now to look at all options for who to tune. Already got in touch with Kosmic Motorsports here, but always looking for recommended option in the area

Expect 430-450whp (dynojet) or so on the MHI red on pump 93. Its a nice bolt on turbo. Lots of good results out there.

May be a good idea to do a -10 line from the VC to a catchcan back to the intake pipe to help with crankcase pressure. If its a BB red , you may also want to get a turbosmart oil pressure regulator to control oil pressure to the turbocharger.

If you can get E85, it would really wake up that turbo and make 500+ at the tires easily. You would also need larger injectors/fuel pump .The guys at Kozmic know these cars well and Adkins does alot of the tuning there.

With any build its important to develop a plan and checklist to work towards your goals.

Hopefully you went with the MHI hotside.

Kozmic would be a great choice for a tuner.

I did go with MHI Hotside. Also, have a...cant remember which catch can (so long ago) setup. Its the 1 that fits in trangle of strut bar. But i will need to probably make a better clamping for hoses (just worm gears holding together). I dump it every other 3 or 4th change. Not so bad now (run 24 psi), but might be worse with more volume and psi?

Also, thinking about the oil pressure. I will be running feed line from oil filter housing to turbo. Will i be able to also run sensor to same circuit?

You use different ports for the pressure sensor and turbo feed.
