At any rate, I would advise you to tear down the whole timing belt system and inspect everything rather than just slapping it back together and hoping for the best. It would be a good time to do a timing belt job if your at all close to needing one.

both cam pins are still there as well as the little pin in the timing belt tensioner I have looked over everything the best i can and nothing seems out of place. the motor turned over fine before i ripped it apart and it sounded healthy. I just don't know what to think.

Reason: adding on
Well the odds that it made its way in there from the outside world have to be insane. So either it came from something breaking inside, or maybe broke off of a tool used to do a timing belt job in the past..? Either way that's pretty bad luck, I'd hate having that unknown hanging in the back of my mind. When was the last time the belt was changed?

i'm assuming it was done when the motor was put into the car which was 3 years ago. unknown mileage on the belt but the car was barely driven by the previous owners but again unknown. Motor has 73kish miles. The belt is a gates and it has no cracks. I would replace the belt but the motor isn't at tdc since i didn't plan on replacing it when i popped the crank sprocket off. I marked the belt and ziptied the cam gears to the belt like when i did my cams. That is why I am hesitant i taking the belt completely off. I flattened out the trigger and put the sensor on. That is where I am at right now

I know if it was my motor I would for sure be replacing that bent trigger disk. Maybe your bending skills are a lot better than mine, but I just wouldn't trust it. Spinning at 8000+rpm's and having to thread the needle through the sensor, I just don't think I could be at peace without installing a new disk. I would also just take this as a sign/opportunity to do the timing belt and check over / replace everything. The fact that you aren't at TDC on #1 isn't really a factor, the process to re-time the motor and phase the balance shafts is straightforward as long as you read and follow directions well.
I'm not in your shoes though so I can't really say what you should or shouldn't do. I'm pretty sure you know the potential risks, so your going to have to decide what is the right course of action for you and your situation. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.
So a little update to anyone who might see this thread in the future...
I don’t know what happened to my sensor/trigger plate. Something hit and bent the plate and either the bent trigger took out the sensor or what bent the plate also hit the sensor. I decided to replace my timing belt and all pulleys as well as my tensioner since I didn’t know when it was all done last. Also got a new trigger plate and sensor. Put it all back together I was super nervous but started it up and it runs fine. I seem to be having a weird noise at 3500-4000 rpm and it feels like the something is vibrating. Idk what that is either but i May have to make a seperate thread to figure that out.
thanks to everyone who gave me advice. <3
