IRP, Coolerworx, or CAE shifter.
So I’m buying a shifter for my build and I’m stuck between the IRP or Coolerworx. If the CAE is worth the extra money, I don’t care to pay the extra, I just don’t know if it’s worth the extra money.
The Coolerworx shifter seems to have a reverse pull ring, and the ability to change the shift knob. It’s the cheapest option, Ive not heard anything bad about it.
I read old things about the IRP having noise issues due to the shifter being like a fork and the frequencies from vibration, but heard they changed the design to fix this.
I know the CEA is good, but is it $240 better than the Coolerworx.

Full cage shifters are becoming a status item and really aren't all they're made out to be. I've seen a few builds now where the owners went with them on street cars and regretted it - it's a hell of a payment for a downgrade. The most recent that comes to mind is SpeedAcademy's 2JZ M3 street car with the CoolerWorx. Our stock shifter isn't bad and I wouldn't go for a massive change unless I had found a specific shortcoming with it.
i went with the IRP cage short shifter for my X. unlike the post above mine, i dont think of it as a status item. its functional and much better than the stock plastic cage. the way i see it, since i daily my car and shift through the gears so much, i wanted something thats gonna feel quick and precise. plus the cage has adjustable points that change the characteristics of the throws. i.e the height of the fulcrum that connects to the shifter cable. If I could do it again i would shell out the extra cash for the CAE. Nothing wrong with the IRP one. in fact i love it. its just that nothing beats the original.
