Hey guys,
I posted my car when I first got it back in the beginning of October, I haven’t posted since because of a straight bad luck occurrence.
Not even a month of ownership my evo had a tree fall on it, the previous owner had a carbon roof installed on it and honestly I feel like it saved the car in general.
my question is do you guys think that this can be fixed or do I just need to pull the trigger and spend around 2k for a new roof?
Already have a company gonna special order a varis CF roof when I give them the go ahead, but I would like to know if it’s just worth trying to fix the one that’s on it.
I also have to get a rear left door, front left fender, left rear quarter needs repaired, and new wing
@Arkham Moto
Yeah, sorry to see that type of damage. Im sure a good body shop could repair that cracked CF roof but it would require a vinyl wrap or paint afterwards? Maybe that would be something to consider?
Replacing the roof is certainly a labor intensive job!
Hope youre able to repair this but it looks like you have your hand full w/the other body work needed as well.
I would definitely be fine painting it, I think I may ask around to different body shops and see. And it is under insurance but the insurance didn’t cover the tree falling on it because apparently we didn’t have that 7 dollar extra in the coverage (you bet you’re butt we do now) I’m fine spending the money to fix it myself, it’sa project car anyways, but I just wanted to see if the carbon fiber roof was fixable. I appreciate it!
Sorry man that's some bad luck for sure. When a tree fell on my sisters car the insurance weaseled out of it by claiming they didn't cover "Acts of God". I just SMH because where does that kind of reasoning end. Anyway If it was me I would replace that roof. You don't have to go carbon fiber. You could see if aluminum MR/SE roofs are still available from or get one cut from a donor car. I think your carbon fiber roof is probably structurally compromised and any repair would be mostly cosmetic and not restore the strength of the carbon material that has been torn/fractured. Good luck with what ever path you choose.
Just a couple observations here...first of all sorry this happened, what a bummer! The stories about insurance companies backing out is concerning considering "acts of god" contribute to many damages to our vehicles.
Now, onto the roof. I swapped my roof panel over to an AL roof so have some feedback on the process. While it is labor intensive and one of those moments where you just need to dive in, its also a very doable process so if you are handy I would attack it yourself. I pulled the front and rear glass myself as well and also reinstalled it. You wont have to worry about not damaging the windshield for obvious reasons, lol!
Finding a replacement roof panel might be a bit challenging. I know the AL panel is no longer available. There are probably still some out there stockpiled so you may get lucky. I know I was told theyre gone but then received a tip there was one sitting at a dealer in CO. Even after calling the dealer the parts guy claimed they didnt have one. Sure enough got a different parts guy on the phone and what do you know, they had it afterall so needless to say I bought it!
Hopefully the normal steel roofs are at least available or you'll be looking at finding a donor roof from a wrecked vehicle.
The last thing I have to say is, are you sure you have a CF roof panel? Judging from the pictures it appears to be an overlay and not an entire replacement panel. Im seeing what appears to be the folded layers of sheet metal on the side where it meets the pillar. now Im not 100% on that basing if off of one picture but I'd put my money on the fact that is an overlay and not an entire panel. So on that note, I could confirm if that is the case and if so pull it off and see what kind of shape the panel is in. Maybe its just a matter of popping out some dents and minimal body work which wouldnt require removing the roof.

I’m sorry I just now seen this over 2 months later.
i have since done more investigating and yes it is a full carbon roof. I have some options in mind, but I also have one last question. What’s the difference in a regular Lancer roof and an evos (not the mr of course I know it’s aluminum)
Sorry to see that. If I were you I'd just replace the roof with the aluminium one, no need CF cuz good enough for a street car. Fixing your damaged CF might be just as expensive and still questionable result and strength with more time and headache too if it doesn't come out right. So to me, why bother, just buy replacement one, either original aluminium one or CF if you must have CF.

unfortunately it’s not a choice of if I want a carbon or aluminum. I can’t find an aluminum oem anywhere. Pretty much it’s either try fixing this one, or wait on a carbon one which is like 8-12 weeks
