Modern-day alternatives to Evo 9?
What's that gonna do when I need to shake them in the canyons?
Also, Evos aren't ugly, as long as someone didn't put a Voltex kit on them anyway. All the lines are restrained and purposeful. That's part of the challenge of finding a modern day equivalent. RS3 was probably closest in that regard.

You get:
- External higher capacity oil cooler
- Larger front brakes (374mm instead of 345mm rotors and larger calipers)
- 1000w radiator fan (instead of 850w)
You can tell if the M240i has this package by the additional stuck on fender flare bits, M340i you need to look at the rotor size to tell.
I think its just a different era. Back when the evo was made people cared about the driving experience/functionality. Not trying to show how sci fi your car looks or prove you got the sports car with like 20 special badges and vents trying to tell everyone its race car. The evo didn't need to do that. It just performed without trying to prove itself. I laugh when people still call the evo a boy racer. Its like they haven't seen the over styled wanna be race cars coming out every other day today.
i think we all just want a tincan with a motor but *could* pass as a DD

You want an Evo replacement, but what you really need is a family wagon. And while an M340i can be fun, it's certainly not an Evo replacement.
My list is: RS3, M240i AWD, Polestar 2 and maybe GR Corolla if I lose my eyesight and forget how to count to 4.

Wow, I'm impressed this thread is still going.
Thanks to Carmax, I've been able to test drive the newest Civic Type R and GR Corolla:
Civic Type R: Interior is ridiculous. Suspension crashed hard over speed bumps (my stock Evo IX was way better). No handle-type E-brake??? It had this weird rev-hang thing that screwed up shifting for me. Fake engine noise was lame. Too big (Accord-sized now). Despite the reviews about its amazing FWD set-up, the tires spun quite a bit.
GR Corolla: looked better in person than in the photos, but still not cool like the Evo was. Immediately fun and felt natural to drive. I couldn't stop smiling when driving it. Back seat area a bit small vs. the Evo, but my kids are grown now so no worries there. Not quite as fast as my Evo, but in fairness my Evo was modified so not an equal compare. Interior (like the Evo) was really basic -- no armholder is kind-of lame, and stereo was bad.
I'm still not sure what to do... I like the looks of the new Z - maybe I'll just get that as a grand tourer kind-of car? It has a nicer interior, which as a now 50+ year old person I think I'd enjoy. But, Corolla to me seemed like the closest to being a Evo XI. I've also noticed that prices are coming down -- just like with the Evo, once the original group of people that wanted them got one, the demand kind-of dried up.
If I had to buy a car today, I think I'd go for the GR Corolla. My daughter comes home from school this summer, so that may end-up being what I do. We'll see...

Let's be real here: this is a cope thread. There is no substitute for the real thing, so the best modern-day Evo is going to be any used Evo. I'm kinda glad I haven't been able to sell mine because any time I take mine for a ride it's like I'm teleported to better days. We're in full clown world now and anything new is just a meme that's trying to rekindle a past that most people never had but want to feel like they did. Think of it like these modern shows and movies that are "set in the 80s" but people who lived in the 80s know these remakes don't capture the essence and are hollow. Having owned my Evo IX since 2006 and being able to experience that era in a JDM legend is something that cannot be replicated in modern times. Lots of fond memories cruising with friends, hanging out, racing, working on cars, talking shtt, BTFOing ricers, etc. The only car I believe could stand in for the Evo, not as a replacement but as a suitable alternative, is a R34 Skyline GT-R Vspec. I feel like I wouldn't be disappointed in a Skyline if that was my only option instead of the Evo...though perhaps not as practical due to it being 2-door.
I agree. Nothing like an evo.
it’s funny how times change though. From 2008 when I had my first evo, they were not desired. People said they give a lot of problems and break a lot (mine was dead reliable, with good maintenance of course)
they were seen as the rag dogs of the racers. Prices didn’t hold up on them very well.
in todays world, these rag dogs are now desired and highly sought after. Even rust buckets sell for a pretty penny now.
Evo has earned its place as it passed the test of time. It’s a legendary vehicle !

From a performance stand point, the Evo has easily been replaced by several other cars.
Factory performance is so irrelivent these days because its super easy to modify anything to beat anything. Mechanical tech sort of peaked around 2005 and it's been EV push since then. Straight line speed is a dime adozen. It totally has become a clown world and if you don't think so watch President biden speak for afew minutes.
