Modern-day alternatives to Evo 9?
Audi or anything from VW group would be my last choice. The things they do with engines, gearboxes etc just to get your money are just awful. Also Audi is only brand I know that is purposely moving engine before front axle for no god damn reason at all. We didn't get Corolla GR in here but I drove Yaris GR for couple of weeks. Fun little toy car but nothing more. I'm 194 tall and I looked like retard, not to mention how uncomfortable it was
I'm seeing some videos pop up of the AWD M240is hitting 1,000+ whp, dipping into the 7 second quarter mile times. Seems like a modern day Evo alternative to me. Uglier and heavier, but not too far off. Closer to an Evo than the Supra at least. I wonder how much weight reduction is possible?
Also, part of the appeal of the Evo, to me, is that it was the best thing Mitsubishi offered. Makes you feel special that there's no model above it. With most other brands, especially luxury, you're not getting the best unless you're dumping 400k on some weird edition for collectors. In my opinion those aren't even real cars, no one is taking them to the track, they're irrelevant ornaments shaped like sports cars.
There's a different kind of value to something that is attainable and enjoyable. The same applies to food, tech, housing, hobbies, whatever. It's not about the performance figures themselves. There's just something inherently lame about the diminishing returns of contrived luxury goods.

That's my point about the M240i, it's a Supra in a 3 box shape with AWD. That seems like an Evo XI recipe to me, just bloated. The 500lbs penalty is rough, but I don't have the self control for a RWD car. I agree though, that the numbers/value proposition of the Supra does remind me of where Evos were 20 years ago. Challenge exotics (after some mods) at an attainable price, that part checks out. I just want it to look more discreet.

Also, agree with @LetsGetThisDone , my Supra has been a great replacement for my evos...

Name_User isnt into motorsports so he's more into a babyhauler/grocerygetter/snow capable vehicle (bonus if the car is commonly raced all over the world) i think. I'm into underdogs too. These days I think the evo is way too underdog, even the styling since everything new got airdams, extended fenders and diffusershtuff
Nah it's about the appearance of a baby hauler, wingless. Think of it from a police helicopter perspective. "We're following what appears to be an older sedan, possibly a Honda or Kia according to reports." That's where it's at for me.
A Supra isn't the same.

Unless you grew up in a cave or know absolutely nothing about cars nobody is thinking the evo is a baby hauler or a sleeper let alone the police. Its only made like amillion appearances in world rally, time attack, street racing, drag events. The huge gaping intercooler and wide body panels are a dead give away is not just some grocery getter. even in full stock form. I think you got the wrong car if this is your goal. I remember having my rs, totally stock form and would get comments from moms or middle aged men calling it a japanese sports/rally car. Police always had their eye on it.
Get an Explorer ST.
