1mm over regrets

So being I am still waiting to pick up my car from Slowmotion, there are some things that are on my mind. One of the things is when I had my valves coated I had the option to go 1mm over on the exhaust side and I passed on it. So I have 1mm over on the intake side and stock on the exhaust side. I know 1mm isn't much, but I kinda feel some regret not doing the machine work to have the 1mm over on the exhaust side. I have done everything I wanted this time around for that and I guess the question is should I have done that? I hate the fact that when I do have free time to just think, I feel that I should have done this or that different. I am worried about making the hp numbers I wand for whatever reason and it all comes back to this. Idk why I feel regret. Does anyone else feel this way when they modded their car?

Going 1mm oversize valves without massively changing the port size/shape reduces flow.
I've tested it, STD size to 1mm oversize.

Stock head data.
Ported head data.
Ported head data with 1mm oversize valves..

Thanks for the info MIke. My head is ported, but the shop who did my head believed in using the 1mm over on the intake side and stock size exhaust size. Idk Slowmotion wanted me to go 1mm over on the head but at the time I couldn't afford the machine work and plus I didn't really think that it was worth it. I think I ma just driving myself crazy with over thinking things. I know I wanted to redo the port job being it looked like a 5 year old did it and the shop wasn't happy with how it looked but I never got a word back on if they wanted to fix it or not. I know I would like to get another head and have it done up again and ported properly, get new guides and get some springs from work and have an extra head in case something goes wrong. I also was thinking that maybe my 288s aren't going to be enough maybe I should go to like a 294 or something but its like wtf are you doing shut up and wait for the numbers and live with it lol.

Lol easier said then done . It has been about 4 years since I have driven the car with any of the new setup stuff on it. From the 2.4 with this turbo setup to the 2.2 with this current setup. Hard to just wait.

Honestly when you think about how small that is, is there really a benifet to something that small. Thinking about it I can't see anything beneficial to that.

That is some interesting data. Thanks for sharing.

Were you ever able to get the ports enlarged and reshaped enough to warrant the +1mm valves?

With the port shape we had, going any larger than OEM on the valve sizing lost flow.
I'm sure it would be similar for a 100% stock head also.
The porting we did on my head wasn't crazy, just cleaned it up really.

Nope. I dont think it's required until you're chasing 800whp++
From memory Headworks says stick with STD valve sizings until this power.

if you're chasing 800whp, i'm guessing you're going to want a decent amount of head porting done.
The shop doing the work should have a proven recipe for what you're trying to accomplish.

I was just showing that we tried STD and +1mm valves, and +1mm valves on the stock based port lost flow everywhere.
Doesn't mean it wont make power.

My turbo is rated to 1200 hp and I intend on going to at least a 1000whp. The shop that did the work origionally had ported the head and did a **** *** job of it. Current shop I don't think did anything but walnut blast it clean it and put it back together. But back then I only had a fp blackish turbo. Car only made like 560 on a mustang dyno. I had the option to go 1mm over on the exhaust side this time around and I passed due to money restraints. I know I want to get another evo head and have it re ported and have everything done the way I want this time to make my #'s but it just kinda bothers me I didn't have the exhaust side done. I don't know the extent of the ports on the head I just know the shop said they looked like **** and asked if a drunk 5 year old did them. That doesn't make me feel any better lol.
