Different part numbers are listed for both but there shouldn't be any incompatibilities between them, at least there's none that I'm aware of.

Different part numbers for the coolers, same for the lines. Eyebolts are different part numbers. I've compared them before and it looks like 9 has larger openings on the eye bolts.

eye bolt numbers

Thanks a lot for help. So the eyebolts would need to be changed with the evo 9 cooler? How about bracket, can I use evo 8 bracket with evo 9 cooler? The evo 9 cooler is wider.

I swapped a 9 oil cooler as an upgrade on my 8 rs. Everything from the 8 fit onto the 9. Lines and everything. Never inspected them close up, all I know is it fits and functions. I dont know about the bracket because I used a 9 bracket too..

I might have a picture comparing eye bolts, let me check.

I've replaced an 8 oil cooler in the past and most recently removed and reinstalled one. I bought used lines and bolts that came off a 9, that's how I noticed. Also swapped over to a 9 front bumper with the 9 oil cooler duct. I didn't know the 9 was different dimensions.

That's exactly what I am trying to do, I want to do upgrade cooler to evo 9 on my evo 8. I also has an option to buy maperformance setrab cooler but I was reading that people has a problems with lines leaking on them so I dont know what to do. Both of them are the same price around 450$

I dont know, I got the IE pan/pressure gauge around the same time. I doubt these oil coolers affect oil pressure though

Ok thanks for help, I think I will try it. I have a 1/2 filled block so maybe a little extra oil cooling might be needed. The worst case scenario I can cover half radiator in colder days or something

Hey one last question. I live in Illinois, I dont drive the car when snow is out but I still drive it in the fall when outside temp. can be as low as 30F. So basically the temperatures that the car see are 30F lowest and 85 highest in summer. Will map setrab cooler over cool the oil? Maybe I should really stick with evo 9 unit. I was reading somewhere that some people can't reach operating temp. with setrab cooler. The evo is fully build engine with 6870 turbo and I drive it on the street only, no track. I was using oem evo 8 cooler for the last 6 years but now I have a hole and it is leaking so I need to change it. Thanks!

I read the same ... i think that depends on where oil temp is measured and how much cold air the sensor gets. I dont have an oil temp gauge but as long as my oil pressure is reading about the same range before driving hard then I'm not too concerned
