Trouble Help
i just had a motorsports put in my aem intake for my evo 8 couple days later something is wrong with my engine. when i drive and shift @ 3000rpm it's ok , but when i try to punch the car to like 5,000 or even more i feel that i have lost alot of power. like it does push the car forward instead it just lags .. what happen ? also when i was on the freeway i my car won't go more than 60mph and i'm on fifth gear. it lags power at that point and work speed up more than that ....did something go wrong? all i have in my car is a downpipe and the aem intake....please help....sorry for the post being so long
If your car is not tuned specifically for it, a cone filter will cause your car to run lean across the middle as it has differing flow characteristics which throw off the MAF readings. What your experiencing is most likely timing pull by the motor to prevent detonation. With a downpipe alone my car was getting slight timing pull down low and accross the middle although nothing compared to what a cone filter can do on our cars. Try reseting your ECU by pulling the negative battery terminal for 15 mins then allow your car to idle for 10 then drive it varying the rpm ranges frequently, hopefully this will smooth out your powerband for the time being. If you plan to keep the air filter I'd advise looking into some form of engine management and not going WOT for the time being.

Tons of people have installed intakes and exhaust components (without further tuning) and had absolutely no problems. I think it is a lil premature to get the kid all worried about tuning issues.
I think the easiest thing for this guy to do would be to check all connections on the intake. Make sure everything is connected correctly and as tight as possible. Air leaks and incorrectly installed components can wreak havoc. After checking all connections and assuring yourself that everything is installed correctly, undo the positive battery lead for a few secs to reset your ecu. Reconnect, and start the car. Let it idle for a few minutes then go take it out for a test drive.

i'm not very good @ working on my car a motorsport shop put in my intake . what is afm and where is it? is it hard to identify and easy to plug in ? thanks everyone for helping me out i'm very new @ this ....
lanevokai....afm = air flow meter, it should be right behind your air filter, next to your radiator. there is a 5 wire plug that should be connected to it. if its not, it tends to give the symptoms you described.

You will see the new air filter. Connected to that will be a square box with a plug and harness coming out of the side. This is the MAF(also known as afm). Attached behind the MAF will the silver/red/blue 'tube' part of the new intake you just had installed.
Make sure that the plug is properly and fully snapped in. Make sure the wires on the harness are not damaged.
If you want pics to compare your installation to, please check out my install guide/review of the AEM intake on this site....it can be accessed from the evom main page.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE
i found the problem. durring my lunch time i look @ all the hoses and found one that the clamp wasn't even tighten. after i tighten it i was fix. ....thanks to everyone who took their time to help me
one more thing though ...............after the aem intake ...the engine spoons up quicker to 3000rpm and makes that koo sound i like. is it me or does the car seem a bit slower at the top end. overall i ran my car very hard to test it's potential with the aem and seems slower or is it just me
i figure with the aem i would be faster ...it's like someone had mention in the other threads .....you'll spoon quicker to turbo but your top end is slightly weaker....he said something about only getting less than 19psi like boosting only 15-17psi is that true...or could i just be paranoid....
