I'm at about 8000 mi, drive about 11 miles to work every day in heavy chicago suburban traffic (30-40 minutes) and no problems here. I did smoke the crap out of the clutch once being really stupid, but it's been fine ever since. I do hear the deceleration noise, but I understand that's a pretty normal thing. I also hear the cam gears whining, the brakes occasionally squeaking and my wife yelling at me cause I bought a car with such a "bumpy ride," but that's all par for the course I think. It also has the clutch shudder that everyone whines about, but that's to do with the super light 14 lb flywheel and a heavy AWD drivetrain. People are a bunch of hypochondriacs!

Hi, Just got my evo a few weeks ago, The day after I picked it up I drove it and noticed that it had a slight hiccup, Nothing serious very mild but you could feel it every 10 seconds during idle.
A week went buy everything was fine then I was in a situation where I had to get on it in first gear, never red lined it just got up quick to about 6000 and let off the gas. Immediately after, it idled rough and has been since then.

I will be taking it to the dealer soon to have them look at it. As of now I have 900miles.
Does this mean it's a bad car? No.
Like many of you, I have been waiting for this cars arrival in the U.S. for many years.
I have it now and every time I sit in it, It feels like an event.
I also live in an average size city and you can count on your fingers how many others there are. Since I've bought it I've had nothing but compliments and stares and I haven't seen one on the road since I've brought mine home.

If any of you have any suggestions as of what may be the problem, please fill me in.
- Be safe. peace ho.

Cool, I'm in Austin also. Where did you buy at? Sorry you are having an issue @ 900 miles.

Gillman south was willing to deal on 03's, but the only non-demo black car (they only have yellow, red, and black) was "in the body shop". Those guys kinds make me uneasy.

Hey man, good to meet you. I agree about Gillman South. My evo is silver I had to pick it up in Rosenberg, outside of Houston. If you are looking for one I can definitely recommend you to someone in San Marcos Gillman who won't bulls*** you.

7,000 miles, it is my daily driver. It gets at LEAST 10 or so miles a day going from school and back but usually more as I use it for everything else. I have catback exhaust and turbo timer, and still on stock clutch. No problems.

Nice to meet you also!

Gillman could have a deal on their hands but wouldn't stop insulting me on my trade in. (they were trying to go about 7K below wholesale) which cracked me up. The furthered that by telling me that a "50K inspection" (which BMW does not have) runs about $2300. I called their bluff (I do all my own maintenence and installs) and told then they were full of it and they continued to try to lie to me even after I called them on it. (BMW does an "Inspection II" at no certain interval and it is more like $600...I told them I had already done everything on that list anyway...straight up scammers)

I have pretty much said that I will get an 04 now, so give me your guys name in San Marcos and I'll give him/her a buzz.

Gillman also puts these HIDEOUS pinstripes on all the Evo's. This and the "paint sealant" are what they used to try to jack up Evo's (in some cases $5K) prices when they first arrived)

Thanks!

I have that intermittent hiccup as well... i think that's normal.

10k miles...

anyway, no problems... no mods, just rims. i used to have a clank/clunk noise whenever i shifted gears (as i released the clutch and pressed accel) that bothered me quite a bit. however, i got some aftermarket rims to mount my stock tires (stock rims have winter tires) and for some strange reason i haven't heard the noise since. it may have had something to do with my passenger side front rim being bent (began noticing the noise shortly after hitting THE HUGEST POTHOLE EVER... in the fog)? i don't know. i'm just glad it's gone

$5k wax job?? If anyone needs paint sealant, let me know I can hook you up! I'll offer first class service for a concourse quality shine. 6 hour wax job - $4k!

Yep, I saw one of the markup stickers while riding in the back of the test drive Evo.

Hey at least it's not the Bay Area ones were they "offered" underbody sealant for $8K!

Thank god someone else agrees about the pin stripe. They look hideous and pretty, and they're on every single one.. but not mine. Apparantly its only in San Marcus and Austin where those things were popular. Luckly mine didn't have one, but then again it came out of Houston. The name of the guy you want to talk to is Ray Dominguez. He is the finance manager, which in my opinion is the only person you should do buisness with.

Thank you Hueman for your reply, anyone else have this problem?
