Evo Reliability (May 04 Update)
nothing mechanically wrong but i really think i should change my tranny fluid sigh. but has anyone noticed a rattling? i am not too sure what it is but it is a small rattle/hum especially when the car is idling or maybe i just cant hear it when i am driving. i think it is that panel right above the glove compartment but not too sure. brought it to the mitsu dealership and there like it's nothing. i still wanna know what it is tough.

My first EVO (red), I had for 3 weeks before I was able to talk the dealer into letting me exchange it for a new one. It had to be towed into the dealer 3 times in three weeks because it had a serious electrical problem that kept blowing the fuse. This car also had a slight grind with 1-2 shifts
My 2nd evo (silver) also has a gear grind with 2-3 shifts, my dashboard became "crooked" after about a month of ownership, and my seat fabric has clips that keep popping off.
I traded in an 03' WRX for this car, and I'm sorry I did. I had 10k left til payoff on that car, and I traded it in for a 20+k loan on a car that I'm worried sick about. I'm not made of money, but I fear you have to be to own a car like this. I really do love the sound of the engine, and the raw power of the car, but it's not enough to make me not regret my decision to buy this car.

This situation(s) and ownership experience is uncommon for the EVO.
Hell, even people as concerned about 'perfection" as the Japanese culture is are entitled to a "bad day"..
Drank too much saki the night before and then tried to build an EVO the next day I guess..
8k, had 5th gear syncro replaced at 2k and no problems since except my sunroof is rattling like a SOB. Generally it has been on par with other Mitsu products. Not excellent, but not as bad as American made vehicles.
23k, 13 months. Had that 4th to 5th synchro replaced as well at about 6k miles. Only other complaint I've had was these exhaust deposits appearing on my bumper above my tailpipe that would only come off when the plastic was hot. Oh, and the fabric on my driver door panel came off... got it all fixed under warranty.

4k miles. No problems. I drive pretty agressivly some times. My right brake squeeks when I press the brake with medium force. (I think I glazed the pad from having to slam the breaks) but no functionality problems... I thnk they are pretty rock solid for the most part.
18,000 miles. Tracked at HPDE three times, now on third set of tires. Drivetrain is noisy, but flawless.
One small problem - paint chipping behind driver's side rear door at lower quarterpanel - seems to be simply a "turbulance point" where stuff will hit.

the only things that i notice with my car is that I have more negative camber in the rear(guess mitsu wants the car to understeer instead of oversteer) and I get vibration thru the steering wheel when ever I go over 60mph. But no big deal,I probably just need to get my car aligned.
13k daily driven.
Few canyon runs, few drag races, few rally, and I am still on stock clutch and stock tires!!!
My only problem is my 3rd gear grind which I went to the dealer to fix;they fixed it but transferred the problem to 4th gear which I am going back 2 again. Other than the grinding problem which is going to be fixed my evo tears up majority of the cars drag or any other races.

a couple problems have occurred for me. after the furst week my sunroof wouldn't close, but then suddenly it fixed itself. also my breaks squeek, other evo owners say this is normal. if it is normal that sucks. is it true or do i have to bring it to the dealer. 2200 miles only. no hard driving
