Evo Reliability (May 04 Update)

Yes, i've done searches and I've found info. I was trying to get an update on everyone's evos and if they are having problems or not. This is for the people who use the evo for daily driving, not at the track.

I'm sorry can everyone post their mileage and miles for daily commute as well. Thanx

I'm wondering the same thing.

There are so many deceleration noise posts, people with the 5th gear SES light due to the tranny harmonic thing, people who know how to drive burning out clutches, etc. There are also plenty of people selling theirs with less than 15K miles on them. (makes me wonder why) I plan on not modding the car at all and I am still scared. I don't mind a noisy AWD car at all, but want to avoid problems I don't have now with my Non Evo ride.

I want to know if people think any of this stuff will be remedied on the 04s. I test drove an 03 the other day and loved the car, but the issues scare me away. (not too mention I can't stand most of the Mitsu lineup...no offense meant to anyone)

I drive a 99 M3 right now and have never had an issue with the car. It makes me scared to give up a very reliable ride for something that seems sooner or later will have an issue. (I HATE dealerships of all kinds...never had a good one, gave up a long time ago)

just over 10k miles on mine. 3 visits to the dragstrip (i think about 14 runs), 2 auto-x's (7 hard starts), 3 track days (roughly 200 miles...advanced group, so no slow laps allowed), and a few street races.

I change my own oil. I probably should change my transmission fluid....

no clutch issues, i did have a small rattle in my door but it went away. car is definately not aligned right, but i am lazy.

edit - my car is pretty much stock... not even an aftermarket exhaust....

i have 18 k on the odom. and i do both, on sundays i do about 13 runs on the drag track consecutively and get 12.5-12.6 and i drive it everyday to work

if you click the "my evo" link, you can see my mods...so i figured its pretty reliable, since i have had it since march of last year

So I'm an older guy that will never (well probably a couple of times) launch, drag race etc. I just want a fun daily driver. (and yes, I find the nature of the car very fun for daily driving....I only drive 8 miles to work each way)

Is this the car for me?

14k miles mods since 3k miles and no problems. If you take care of your evo and don't beat the ever lovn' pis out of it, you won't have any reliablability issues

11,000+ daily driven miles. 30-40 clutch slip style launches at the strip. One Streets of Willow day. Stock clutch holding fine. Also had a squeak in the driver side door area that moved to the passenger side. Using Xede and turbo back. A few P0300 codes and one other I can't remember. Running Redline fluids, no problem. Sure I have the decel noise and the grind-if-you-slam-it-into-second. But other than that, pure bliss.

Commute 200 miles daily. Bought car in April 2003. Car is in for the 45,000 mile service today. No problems other than the paint chips on the door. No parts have been replaced other than the tires. Yes I am an "OLD" man, turn 61 this month, and even if I don't launch the car, I also do not baby it. Best car I have ever had.

3K and no problems at all. Keeping my fingers crossed that it can stay this good. I love this car so much!

I drive pretty agressively, but don't beat on the car at all, and observe safe operation at all times. Clutch is great, motor is awesome, and the ride to work everyday realy wakes me up. ;-)

Hey man, if you are 61 and drive an evo, you are ok in my book! I don't plan on launching it that much either, but I will drive it like it was meant to be driven.

22k miles, daily commuter (now semi daily since i got a motorcycle and its warm). Only issue was a burned out starter, but thast one was my fault. Otherwise, no issues at all, am very happy with it.
