I've setup the petition thing on here.

I'd like to get that fixed. I rather spend the clutch money drinking or taking a trip or something...

I think you're all pushing **** uphill trying to get Mitsubishi to replace your clutches btw.

Subaru and Mitsu KNOW you are going to give their cars heaps, and thus they generally make the clutch the weak link in the drive train - the first item to scream ENOUGH! and fail. Its a hell of a lot easier and cheaper for Mitsu to replace a clutch than a gearbox, diffs, driveshafts......

Have a look at your modifications and your driving style before you blame Mitsu for your clutch. I had a 1998 WRX that was heavily modified (try over 300hp at the wheels) and I still ran my standard clutch and gearbox! No slipping, no grinding, just a bit of mechanical sympathy and sensible driving.

i dont necessarily agree... generally speaking, sure it's the truth, but there's definately dozens of exceptions where the younger crowd can definately drive a whole lot better than those older... it just depends on the driver themself ;x

I'll agree that the Evo's clutch is a little weak and you definitely have to learn to launch it right if you don't want to fry it up. Reliability was a concern of mine when I bought it but I figured that Mitsu had worked all the bugs (or most of the bugs) out of it since it's now the Evo VIII.

There about about 5 Evo owners locally that I know and two of them have had their Synchro replaced and I'm about to be the 3rd person. The first owner had his 5th Gear syncho replaced soon after he bought the car. He's an older fella who pampers his car and does not race or drive it hard. It was just defective.

Another Evo owner had his 3rd Gear Synchro replaced about two months ago after about a year of usage and approximately 12K miles. It progressively went down hill and he knew it was coming. He doesn't abuse the car either.

Both of these replacements were under warranty of course.

During any hard acceleration in 1st gear shifting into 2nd I will grind my 2nd gear every time. It's a very painful experience. I have read that others are experiencing this problem as well and have to keep the RPM down to avoid grinding it.

It's unfortunate but I will probably have to take the car in pretty soon for a new synchro. I have put 4,800 miles on it in the past 9 months and usually pamper it. Have driven it hard only a few times. If the local Evo's are any representative of the whole, there may be a recall on the tranny.

I grind my 2nd gear almost once every two weeks. At first I thought it was my lack of coordination, but lately I realized I had the clutch fully depressed, and I wasn't resting on the shift knob. I allowed some friends to drive my car and they also grinded it.

I don't know if I will be lucky enough to get my dealer to fix it...it was there last time complaining about an intermittent sunroof rattle, and the service advisor blamed it on my lowered suspension putting "extra stress on the chassis"...

I'm 19 and I drive for a living. About 50-150 miles a day for the past 3 years. I have never had a ticket nor a speeding ticket. And I think I am a damn good driver after looking at the other dumb asses on the road especially living in a town such as Atlanta. So please dont condemn all youngsters.

were you racing or driving your car hard in such a way that you may have blew it? i recall someone saying user error.... i have to agree...

this sickens me.... 90% of the failures such as this are user errors, you know what? its not your car... it happened to the Impreza WRX when it was first released, then the Impreza WRX STi, low and behold i didnt doubt the LanEvo would be part of this also... its happened because people didnt know how to drive (learn to shift) or racing....

granted the trannies aren't super strong as can be found on the Supra or the Japanese Skyline, but the majority of people who can drive or maintain their habits have kept their cars in good shape, i can vouch for the many auto-x, circuit racers who use the same cars and havnt even messed up a wee bit on the tranny, of course maybe a grind or a misshift, but that was the occasional error...

sorry ranting off.... i'm just tired of these things where people mess something up then they ask why it happend....

3rd gear synchro was used error and the clutch just went bad. really bad. I was driving and trying to do a non-clutch shift into 3rd gear and it toar the synchro up. Eh i dunno. Im over the problems its all being fixed this week with a ACT clutch. and while the cars being worked on im getting a dynoflash and im switching up the setup in my car a little. Im excited.

And since I was little I grew up around cars at my dads body shop, I started driving some cars around the shop pretty young. My first car was a mustang, then a civic, then the rx7 and now the evo. I consider myself a great driver. Granted I have 1 speeding ticket, I knew i was breaking the law and it wasn't all THAT bad... (86 in a 65). I notice a lot of kids my age driving irresponsibly thats eventually going to end bad but I do notice a lot of drivers older than I who are terrible drivers (older women around my neighborhood are TERRIBLE). I'll be autocrossing my car as soon as its back to healthy condition

GUYS, file your complaint here.... "Petition " is worthless if you dont get it to the right people. As a person you probably wont get very much from MITSU, but as a group bringing this to the attention of the govt you will get better results. My buddies in the ford world went this route until ford issued a recall on Head gaskets for all 3.8L V6's a few years ago. If you make your VALID complaints know they will listen.

hey kiddo (i myself is not much older ) i respect that, and i do agree even older people are bad drivers!

the trend i see with higher performance cars with people toooo anxious to take it hard is unbeleivable, and thus becomes a disaster, nevertheless darwins rule applies, have fun at the auto-x! hahaha get your friends to go and battle eachother at getting faster times, skills is what i preach only time will it be realized
