I'm surprised you people are experiencing gearbox problems...the Evo is perhaps the only car which comes with a 9sec gearbox from the factory, they are bullet proof. Of all the Evos in Japan to date, gearbox troubles so early especially not drag racing is the first I've heard. Flat shifting and abusive treatment will evidently see a quick death.

On a stock Evo the clutch will slip over 4000rpm.

All the NY and NJ rejects are now in Atlanta.

Even 4 years ago, this town use to be filled with good, helpful, understanding, safe drivers.

Now there are 3 accidents a week that I see happening.

They drive like they really stolen it.

sign the OEM Stock Clutch petition. I don't think we should compromise on a car. It's not American Way. WE Should complain until we get what we want. They're already making enough money on this car and all the rest of it. And if they're going bankrupt, I'm sure whoever takes over will do just as good as job as before.

There are good and bad drivers in every age group. I've been driving for 11 years since I got my licence when I was 16 years old. Sometimes I drive "enthusiastically", but I'm very responsible otherwise. It is unfair and untrue to stereotype all youngsters as bad drivers. I have never caused an accident, and have even successfully avoided numerous collisions when others were at fault. If anyone thinks we can't drive, you should consider those who don't signal when turning, cruising slowly in the left lane, and merging into the highway at 35mph. From what I have observed, they're all older drivers!

Ok, so to solve the younger vs. older driver we should start a poll of people who've had clutch/driveline issues w/ their evos by age demographic? The truth will be in the numbers.. But seriously, is it the Evo or the drivers? And it's not just mitsu... Not to flame on the young guys, but I know when I was young my idea of "good driving" was different than it is now. I was a little too anxious to rev the holy hell out of my car and race anything that looked at me funny. And I had my problems with my cars, hondas, older DSM(talon tsi), mustang.. the truth is if you beat on your car it's gonna break. Bottom line. I wonder why people complain about their clutch etc and say, "I've only done 5 or 10 6k rpm launches." Hmm.. big launches and AWD cars= trouble. I know after 2 trannys for my 94 tsi awd. (the events which led to me retiring from drag racing) Anyway, if you have a justifiable problem with the car it shouldn't be an issue. Clutch abuse has tell tale signs... heat spots on the pressure plate etc.. so if you take your car in and it has no obvious damage from abuse, then warranty shouldn't be an issue.. unless you've modded your car and then there's some grey areas.. personally I bought an evo so I could have a nice, fast car to drive without modding and keep my 100,000 mi warranty. These things are important when you have a family to take care of... anyway, just my .02 on everything.. so if you mod and beat on your car, how much can you complain? if you drive it right and use common sense and mitsu denies you, you've got a good argument.. and there are laws regarding warranty work and mods which would be useful to research.

Exactly, you are talking about exceptions, I am sure there are 16 yr olds that are sane drivers, but take a cue from the insurance industry. Why do kids get charged more for their insurance? Because the insurance companies don't like kids... no, the reason comes from extensive risk anaylisis and it shows that 'as a rule' 16 yr olds are irresponsible, and to offset the cost of insuring 16yr olds that tear up thier cars and ask the ins. company to pay, the price of insurance is raised for ALL 16 yr old drivers. esp boys

Which, in a roundabout way leads to, teenagers often do not think of the consequences of their actions. They tend to live in the present, which is a good thing. But may lead to big nasty 4 wheel spinning, tire smoking launches, without the thought that "I might need the clutch tomorrow to get this thing down the road?"

Again, in all things there are exceptions, I do not want to criticize the driving of someone I do not know or have not met, the EVO in question could be a lemon. But companies will look at their statistics and make a decision before they get to know you, thus expensive insurance and voided warranties for younger drivers.

I don't even think it's the driving. It's really the impulse thing. That sudden urge to go ape poopie when you're young and full of **** and vinegar.

I know I was a lot more crazier when I was yonger than now. I'm still crazy but with a lot more self control.

I think that's what we're talking about. Not how you drive, but how crazy you are. lol

Hope that was tongue in cheek. Otherwise, you need your head read. So you want Mitsu to make your car somehow 'bulletproof' so you can thrash the crap out of it?

Ok, so if they do the clutch thing and the problem then transfers to your gearbox, are you going to ask for THAT to be fixed too?

I'm 28 years old and have had my Evo for 1 year this week. I drive it everyday to work and have taken it to the track. It has almost 21,000 miles on it right now with the stock clutch grabbin glike it did day one. A few weeks back, I went to the track and ran my car 4 times in a row. Never stopping at all. I staged, took off, finished, and turned right around and did it three more times. Launching my car at 6000 rpm's, I never smelled the clutch one time. I got 4 runs in about 8 minutes and knew I should stop and I did before I did something I would regret later.

I don't care what any of you say. If your clutch is going out it is 100% your fault. Either you can't drive worth a crap, you race everyone that looks at you funny, you are a spoiled brat that got your car paid for by your parents and just simply don't car and think Mitsu is gonna take care of you.

I know just about all the local Evo owners here in town. Everyone that has had clutch problems are not in their 20's yet and are sponsered by mom and pops racing. The delaer just laughs at them thinking they are gonna get it taken care of under warrenty when the clutch is so worn and burnt up.

Some of you don't deserve to drive a Evo. You might think so cause you got good grades or whatnot, but a Evo is not a car to be handed to so little kid to go destroy. It's a mental thing with young kids to have to proove themselves to others and when you have a fast car your gonna destroy it just to try to get your attention you want.

Some of the guys on here that actually pay for their cars and had to pay for their cars since they were driving know exactly what I'm talking about. I did without a car in highschool and bought my first BRAND NEW car a few months after I graduated without my parents paying for anything. I have done that with all my cars and I have worked my *** off paying for them. I've appreciated everyone of them as well and didn't kill them.

I have had a Exedy twin disk in my garage now for two months just waiting to go in my car. I will put it in when I'm ready, not when I have to. The only reason I bought it was because I got it for $500 brand new. I'll sell it to someone that needs it for $1200.

Sorry for the rant.

Oh yeah....we have a guy here in town that when he got his Evo we actually made bets on what he would do first. Some said he'd wreck it, some said he'd fry the clutch, and some said he'd would blow it up. He done everything but blow it up and he's 19 and is sponsored by grandparents racing. He actually asked me if he could put a MBC on and turn it up to 35 psi.

It is only a matter of time and the car will e completely trash. He pays the monthly payment, but after his grandparents put 22,000 down for him. That is still (IMO) getting a car handed to you.

Now I'm done.

You sir, hit the nail on the head. Your are 100% correct and I agree fully.

Children should not be given EVOs. ALL kiddies, say that they are "different" then the rest, and that they are a truely "great driver". I know alot of kids, and I have yet to see one that is really any good. Sad that mommy and daddy buy children these types of cars because these kids give our cars a bad reputation, and cause our insurance to go up due to their mishaps.

Red face

I'll agree with both of you. I never had any one buy me a car. but my first two cars I beat the **** out of them and had lots of problems 1987 5.0 and 1985.5 944 great cars fun to drive. Now that I have my 04 EVO and at 27 years old I take better care of it. and not beat on it. not just because of my age but also because of the price of the car. as the clutches no problems yet, but lots of people going through them quick.

Who ever said my parents bought me my evo, they've helped me for the most part but I've paid for it mostly by making money off my previous cars. Not only that but I've been working since I was 15 and have made over 5,000 on ebay.

I personally I think being an owner of an rx7 is a lot harder to deal with than driving an evo. Evo's are alot easier to control and have less problems believe it or not.

If it makes any difference theres a guy around here with 1 kid and is married (becuase i know having a kid and being married makes it ok to own an evo) blew his clutch with 1600 miles! 1600! thats not right at all. I ordered my ACT clutch yet I still signed that petition because I think mitsu should look into putting a stronger clutch in there

Wow. So you've been cross country doing studies on all younger evo owners? I dont understand how you can say ALL. and how would being younger give evo's a bad rep? I admit a lot of younger drivers have problems... Ive been hit 3 times (from behind by fellow students) in or parking lot at school alone. ER that post pissed me off. Way to stereotype
