The VII 5 speed is a low geared super quick sprint through the gears. I think that would be much better than a 6 which would be even faster. Almost all rally drivers strip the AYC immediately, the differentials should apear in aftermarkets as soon as the car drops.
Thanks Pimpson and broeli! Weight is a big factor (no pun intended). AWD will definately add weight but there may very well be some weight savings elsewhere. 2900lbs is light, 3900 lbs is heavy. Here's to being optimistic The recaro seats still interest me. I'm assuming they have more side bolster for driver stability. Can they be made power? For weight savings you wouldn't want it but for cars in this price range people may expect it.

It seems now we may have more than one trim model to choose from and more than one transmission. Whichever we get I hope they are built to last and can take some abuse after all thats what this car is supposed to be made for

acd = active center differential, it is the part of the drivetrain between the two axles. ayc = active yaw controler. It is a safety feature for all the grocery getting moms who may get a little too reckless in the EVO. For more information see www.howstuffworks.com and search for yaw as well as differential

Pimpson,

I don't understand why almost everyone bashes AYC like it's the plague, a device that will make the car much slower, etc...
Before bashing it, I suggest you DRIVE the evo 7 and see for yourself. Most pple who ditch the AYC are earlier Evo (4 to 6.5) people because it was intrusive, and also the rally guys, for a lot more drifting on gravel/snow. The evo 7 AYC is MUCH better than the earlier versions, and can vastly improve lap times, especially with a tuned ACD computer.

Seriously now, how many pple here will actually rally compete their cars, to warrant an AYC removal? I bet not too many.

I just find it scary and plain stupid that you guys bash a feature because you've only read some bad comments here and there, from people that don't necessarily drive their evos the same you would.

I think most people confuse AYC with dynamic stability control systems like on BMW and MBs.

It is nothing like those systems that use the brakes to keep you from losing control of your car and at the same time to slow you down.

AYC is more related to rear wheel steering systems.

Here is a FAQ on the Evo AYC

AYC is definitely not = DSC

erikgj is right AYC doesn't work like most stability control systems. It doesn't use the brakes or cut the engine but actually make turning even quicker. I makes it so quick that usually drivers feel that the car is about to oversteer. So it is definitely not for inexperienced.

The PDF brochure from the japan site explains it all:
http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/PDF-E/evo7.pdf

The AYC/ACD is definitely a part of the reason why the Evo has been raved about by all those car magazine. It's the combination of all those technologies that makes the Evo the supercar that it is.

The AYC wasn't part of the package before the Evo 4 and the ACD wasn't included before the Evo 7 either. So you could argue that the ACD/AYC are NOT what makes an Evo an Evo. Of course each new version is supposed to be an "evolution" (improvement) over the previous version and thus taking away the ACD/AYC could be considered a "de-evolution"

What the hell is my point again?

Thank you rax, that was what I was trying to say earlier, and it just came out all messed up, it really would be against the "evolution" of the car to take that part away, but I guess we are just going to have to wait it out

I hope Mitsi make a statement with the viii and bring out all the options

WRC. If I had a VII I would definetly rally it as much as possible. I understand that the feature only comes in use when yaw is detected on the rear wheels, but this would seriously inhibit anyone trying to drift in the car. Me personally I would let everythin else in the car that was designed to give it the traction it has take car of keeping me safe but I would definetly want to get it sideways as much as possible. Only car i ever drove with a yaw controller was a Vette and I don't believe it ever kicked in since I was in traffic etc. etc. But rest assured I've not new to the Yaw concept and I would strip it just like a pro rally driver would.
