I was rear ended at approximately 30-35mph while I was at a dead stop. Damage to my car ended up being $4900 to fix. I got the guys license plate and description as he proceeded to flee the scene. I'm out $500 for the deductable, and after nearly 3 months now I have not heard a SINGLE thing back from the Police regarding the issue and I'm really dissapointed in the "system".

So either way, if you got his plate or not, chances are you'd still be screwed. Good luck on the repairs, you may want to look underneath your car to see the real damage.

Yeah...on a car with a damaged tire and front end!? Go ahead...try to chase him!

BTW I feel for ya...

Last year I passed some cattle haulers coming down a canyon road (while I was going up)...it wasn't more than 30sec. later coming halfway around a corner, that my whole lane was covered in cow @#$@ from the trucks that I had just passed ... of course the bike went down (BTW I ride this canyon about 2-3 times per week) and I get up all covered in @#$% ... later...the officer asks me, "...well why didn't get chase after the truck." I kindly walked over to my wrecked bike and said ... "That's why!"

Good Luck on the EVO service...all things considered...the EVO is a very repairable car...

Cheers,

jcnel.

I wasn't making a left on a red i was crossing the median when the light was red and someone let me through. So him hitting my rear bumper and fleeing makes it totally his fault and illegal. Yes I should have chased him in hidsight but this was my first accident I was more concerned about the damage and secondly I would never expect him to run because I would never take that risk. As far as having paper and pen ready I could memorize 7 or so didgits/letters but as a car doesnt even slow down or tap the breaks at all and actually acclerates forward its hard to make out anything by time you compose yourself and realize whats going on.

I was a little premature in checking the real damage of the car though. Got my own hopes up I guess. Looked under the car and minor frame damage and bumper separated with about a 4inch gap now. Also, looking in the spare time compartment its crumples inward a little as well such that it would even be tight now to remove the spare at least without some effort. Also, looking at the supporting metal frame aorund the spare you can see the irregualarity in the surface. Also, both quarter panels in rear from impact dented one slightly more so than other. Cuasing the driver side passenger door to have about a 1/2 inch more gap in spacing then passenger which is normal i think. All in all, by simply looking the body shop quoted $2500 depending on since the exhaust is blocking a little what else if anything may be found.

Oh and as a souvenir as I went to pick up my license plate a few feet back from the impact I also picked up two plastic parts which at the time I thought were from my car. Turns out they are the grill covers of the Pontiac. Hahahahhaha.

Body Shop

I live in Chicago and I was rearended on the Skyway last summer. Gold Coast Autobody on Division fixed my Evo. I had the same gap above the bumper and the crumpled trunk. The damage was between $4-5K.

Gold Coast fixes Benzes, Audi's and Posches for all those dealers on Clark Street. They will fix your car too.

any rear end collision is their fault unless you turn out in front of someone then it is your faliure to yeild to oncoming traffic. (not saying you are at fault - this is generally speaking.

Figured you would have more damage. Get in some good light and look at your rear side panels from an angle. I've seen the metal indent so slightly over a large area that it's hardly noticeable but it's there. Check the gaps in the body all over the vehicle. Yes, even on the hood. Everything should be evenly spaced. I can only guess the trunk is way off. Also be prepared for moisture to accumalate in your tail lights. Check all your power windows to make sure they still work and that all your doors open smoothly.

Sorry to hear about your accident. At least you're OK.

it is legal. I don't carry my gun, because I would kill anyone who drives SUV.

But that's just me

You know, I really do think the SUV's or big trucks are danger to the roads and other drivers.

I live in Atlanta and the roads curve a lot and it's not as wide. It's wide enough but those SUV's don't handle that well.

I've been in so many situation where the SUV on my next lane came in half way into my lane, almost forcing me off the road into the walkway.

Now if that's not dangerous enough, they're almost 99% of the time on their cellphone or have their music up way too high. So if I honk at them, they wouldn't be able to hear me.

It should be illegal for SUV's in this planet. It's really up there with all the mistakes that man kind has ever made.

That guy in the Grand Am should shoot himself then jump off a cliff into a pool of sharks with laser beams attached to their heads.

I almost kill this black kid who was in my house lining up my camera sets, my powerbook G4, and few other things (antique lamp, watches).

I saw him and he took off with my Powerbook, so I ran and grab him (I almost got ran over by a car in process) and start to beat the living shlt out of him. He broke my computer and I got him arrested.

That was a week before my graduation.

You can't drive away innocently, but you must drive away. Leaving the scene is without a doubt the single best thing you can do after an accident. Even if you got his plate it wouldn't have made a difference because it doesn't identify the driver. You have to remember that this is America, its ok to crash your car into other people, just don't stop after you do it. I know this is hard to accept but its the freedom that makes this possible.

On subject, my hit and run rear ender cost over $3k but I've read about others that cost well over $5k.

See this is where you went wrong, you tried to avoid the head on collision. To prove that the other car caused the accident you have to let them crash in to you. You should never try to avoid an accident caused by another driver because you could end up creating a seperate accident that is entirely your fault. People may think that I'm joking but I've seen this before and I'm serious.
