Back to the original post, $2500 is a VERY low estimate for what you are describing. I was rear-ended on the interstate. From the outside the damage looked very slight, just a scratched up bumper. But underneath was the real mess. Both frame rails where kinked about 45 degrees, the welds in the trunk were popped and very slight wrinkle in the trunk floor. Then of course the replacement bumper, support and brackets. Total bill....$3980. Better have a couple shops look at it, not just one.

 

true story:

i have a friend who was stopped at a red, waiting to turn left behind a white durango, when for no reason the durango hit reverse and backed straight up into his car! then fled!

my friend did chase him for about 15 miles - when the guys finally pulled over everyone jumped out of their vehicles and one of the guys from the durango DID have a gun. obviously my friends jumped back into their car and drove off, losing the durango.

when they called the police to tell them where they were, all the police said was to return to the scene of the accedent! they didn't even want to bother finding the HIT AND RUN GUY WHO ALSO HAD A GUN!

they could've at least said "we're sending a unit that way, please come back to the scene".

all i know is there are a lot of cops who make a quick u-turn when they see me drive by, just dieing to pull me over for speeding or something (one cop pulled me over because he THOUGHT i MIGHT be speeding). but when it comes to armed hit and runs, well i guess that's just a little too dangerous a situation for them.

Thats right you should be scared. Let people walk all over you, yup, let them get away. texas allows you to protect property with fire arms, there is a reason for that. Texas is a LITTLE lenient, like if you see a punk breaking into your car in your driveway you can run out there with a gun and hold them, if they run, hit their leg, you are protecting their property, its how it works. But again, if someone wrongs me and thinks that they are gona get away with it, and if I can prevent it, I will. Not sit there and dry like you.

Wait, I also see that your are from NC, lot less population down there, slower mentality too. And if someone runs from you and you shoot them, you will go to jail for assault with a deadly weapon which carries a lot longer jail sentence than a hit and run. i was in a hit and run i didnt even know they caught the guy until i saw in the newspaper my name and that they found the person (and the cops didnt even call my house) and i had to pay a $15 fee for paper work at the police station just to find out who stupid *** neon hit me
