My only guess is there would be like a hair line crack and when you opened your trunk you might have aggitate (sp?) it.

Well, this story may be unrelated, but I think it's similar. When I was about 15 or so I was walking in the house from the garage. I slammed the door closed behind me, and I heard this awful sound. I carefully open the door and look out in the garage and I see the rear tail light swinging back and forth from the back of my mom's 87 Taurus wagon. Apparently slamming the door caused the rear windshield to shatter somehow. I guess it was some kind of vibrational thing. Maybe the same with your Evo? Go figure. And then I had to go explain to the parents that the window shattered on it's own and I didn't do anything...

The car was sitting for a while, correct? With the windows closed, correct? Then you came along and opened the trunk, correct? I propose that the sunroof had developed some internal pressures and stresses (this happens all the time with glass) and that the sudden change in air pressure from opening the trunk (which has vents into the interior) was enough to start it cracking. This should be covered by warrantee but the dealer might say it was from road hazards. If not by warrantee then certainly by insurance.

it has nothing to do with you opening your trunk and releasing pressure. come on, our cars are not sealed that tight. air escapes at will on any car. it's not a submarine. most likely explanation is that it was cracked somehow(a hater maybe) and the extra vibration of you opening your trunk was the proverbial "straw that broke the camels back".

I've heard of things like this in AZ when it's like 110 degrees and the AC is on for a while. The cold inside/hot outside causes the window to shatter, but that may be an urban legend...

Donnie at Leith Raliegh is a good guy, I do however have issues with the Cary store but that is another thread.

Hmm.. that is very weird but yes glass is VERY weird. I have 2 big glass sliding doors in my bathroom and they have exploded twice, its scary as hell because once I came home and there was just glass all over the place and another time I was standing at the doorway and they just off like a bomb was attached to it. For some weird reason yours probally just cracked, i'd just bring it in and show them.

I'm sure that temperature, pressure, and vibration all contributed in some way to the shattering glass. When I took the car in for the replacement and we got the sunroof off, we were able to examine more closely.

The culprit? A stone chip. You could clearly see a pattern originating from a small chip in the class. So no, this was not covered under warranty (and rightfully so).

Donnie is one of the best guys to talk to at Leith Mitsu in Raleigh. If you go there, however, just avoid a certain service department individual with the initials "MW". If I remember correctly, he actually ranks above Donnie as far as job titles go. That doesn't mean **** though, as he's probabaly about the biggest tool I've ever met. No social/people skills, very unreasonable -- the absolute worst person to have in a customer service position.

interesting, stranger things have happened, you know when you close your door you hear a little flap from the driver side rear under bumper. well if you dont take a listen it will, there is a little drap door behind the bumper with a one way valve its job is to take the pressure created in the cab and vent it out the back ya dont beleive its ok cause i know thats how it works
