So what size are the factory holes that the plugs come out of? Your site says 1/2". 1/2" what? I keep reading that those holes are 3/8 BSPT, not a NPT fitting. Where did you get the reducer bushing, and did it thread in fully without you needing to use force? A BSPT fitting has something like 28 tpi, while NPT has 27 tpi. So a NPT fitting would seem to start threading correctly, then get really tight, until you are basically rethreading the hole with the new fitting.

^ Exactly what I wanted to ask. Some people said they used M14 * 1.5 threaded busing. I guess Mitsubishi uses metric thread?

I have now seen

1/2 NPT
3/8 BSPT
M14 * 1.5 (this should be the drain plug thread, not this one)

I just ordered this: http://www.42draftdesigns.com/product/42902.htm.

It supposedly fits those plugs perfectly (although they don't sya what size and pitch the threads are). I'll let everyone know how it fits when I get it.

But one of my friends used M14 * 1.5 threaded temp sender for his VDO gauges, and he used the hole near the oil filter, not the drain plug.

Umm 3/8" whaterver was at the store (or the one that came included with the Autometer supplies.)

I didn't worry about the bspt vs npt. I'm sure that's not ok for many of you... but that's why I said it's what worked for me.

I'll triple check the sizes when I get home tomorrow.

Edit: I was wrong about sizes, thanks for pointing it out to me. I've corrected the typo

i would worry about bspt vs. npt since putting a npt into a bspt hole will end up stripping your block.. and create leakage

well obviously I'm not goina strip the threads if it's tight. It's common sense to take note if something isn't working properly. If you don't have this, then you aren't the person that should be doing the install. I know that sounds harsh, but lets be realistic here.

There is a certain level of of mechanical ability that you have to accept if youre going to work on your car. If you notice the bung is barely screwed in and it's tight, perhaps there's a problem. If it's 3/4 way and it's getting snug, obviously, you're fine.

I stand corrected guys. Sorry about the confusion. The bungs I used were indeed 3/8" NOT 1/2"

What happened is I bought the 1/2" size and it was too large. When I did the writeup I grabbed the wrong bag and made the typo.

Not for nothin, but why all of this trouble. I have no idea how much the fittings cost, probably 7-10 bucks, but why??? Just install a oil filter block, like greddy, and just be done with it. I bought mine for 40 bucks, installed in like 15 minutes, and I was done. Just my .02

Excellent write up btw.
