Installation of Blow off Valve
Hey guys, I was wondering how hard it was to install a BOV. Also whats a good BOV to get? Does installing an aftermarket BOV void the mitsu warrenty (im guessing yes). I saw a link for a how to installation but the actuall link was broken. Anyhow I dont really plan on upping the boost too much but would still like the good ol swooshing sound that comes with turbo cars.
BOV
This is the one I was looking at, seems simple enough anyone heard anything about this model?
Thanks in advance

its super easy it takes like 5 min to do! i guess your not going for sound with that bov right? i love my RFL VTA but i think im switching to GReddy cuz my eclipse sound ruthless with a type s
An aftermarket air intake will allow the STOCK bov to be heard. If all you want is the satisfying woosh, go that route.
There is no reason to by an aftermarket bov besides the woosh unless your modded. The stock bov holds boost for normal applications, where-as it can leak under higher than stock boost levels. It is also rumored to leak under normal levels too from what I remember.
However, if you have the cash, time, want, need for a BOV, go for it. Install is a breeze as long as you know what you are doing. Remember, some BOV's have a tendancy to exacerbate existing EVO probs like stumbling and stalling due to to much fuel. Run a search and you will see a plethora of info on aftermarket bov's
Good luck and feel free to pm me with some install questions...I have done it a few times.

From the people I've talked to, the dealership will give you a hard time about a BOV, but it shouldn't void the warranty. I've also heard horror stories on here about otherwise. I think it just depends. I got the Greddy Type S, including the time to do the single-spring mod, it took me about 45 minutes to put in, and that's because I didn't realize that I had to cut one of the hoses to make it fit until I had it in already.

Thank you very much for your help though, you all have been super great, I can tell this is a good board to be a part of.

Reducing the restriction with a new intake will improve hp, fuel economy and let the stock bov be heard. The intake itself amplifies the air induction of the turbo and the turbo itslef is louder, (I know my HKS RS intake is loud as hell).
My aftermarket BOV is recirculated, but still extremely audible. It's not much louder than the stocker was, but it does have a unique pitch.

Ok now the only question that I now have is how safe is an aftermarket air intake with the air flow cut-outs in the hood. I know with cold air intakes they have to have a valve so that water cant get in the engine so with this car does water stay away from the intake enough? Pretty much has anyone had any problems with that?
Thanks alot bud!

Yes the hood is open, yes water can get in, but not enough to cause problems. Most water would be vaporized on the way in by the heat caused by the turbo. Remember, all you air travels thru the intake, to the turbo, thru the intercooler, back up into the intake plenum and into the motor. Thats a LOOOOOOOONG way to go to cause problems.
I've run an open filter with no probs for a year!

Remember, there are things you can do to improve performance, not to mention fuel efficiency, turbo life, etc. and still not void your warrenty.
