No mention of filling the filter before installation or removing the ECI fuse and turning the engine over to allow oil to be pumped around with no real load on the engine before starting it properly

So you would do this every morning you start the car? Changing the oil is just draining the Oil Pan and filling it back up again. I've always filled the Oil Filter on every vehicle I've owned, but to disable the ignition system and crank over the motor, is just over kill.

yeah, spinning the oil pump is serious overkill. Unless your car has been in storage for months without being started, there is no reason for this. There is a check valve in the head that holds oil up there when you shut your engine off(oil pressure drops), and there is still residual oil on all the parts weeks after you shut off your car.

I was looking at the service manual and it says the specified quantity of oil to refill is 5.4 quarts. is this too much?

Mobil 1 costed $26.00 and the filter costed $6.00 = $32. I go to shop to replace costed me $45 with window fluid filled. Why do all the hard work?

ps: i lowered my car thats why I cant drive up the ramp + nowhere to dump the old oil + waste of time.

Well think this is a good write up, because it adresses the little things and it is well worth the extra time doing it yourself...

This way you know that the proper oil is in your engine and no stupid inexperienced mechanic cross threads the oil screw/filter when putting everything back together...

I plan on checking out this howto when I change mine

So no need to pre-order the filter, etc. correct? They should have them available?

Is it normal to have knocking and the oil light to come on when u first start the car after the oil change? does it go away after a little bit of time? Could it possibly mean i need more oil?

The oil light coming on when you first startup is normal if it lasts only for a few seconds. I never had it knock when I changed my oil though.

Ok, the knock went away and the light turned off but my service engine soon light is still on.. Anyone have an idea of what it could be?

The oil light and the service engine light went on at the same time so i figured i just needed to do an oil change. I guess it didn't fix all of my problems.

Did you bother to check the oil level on the dip stick? Sounds like its low.

For the record, Ive done the last three oil changes on my 05, and never once got an oil light or knocking...
