Valve Cover Painting...

Has anyone painted their valve cover a different color and if so what was the process. Or does anyone know of a write that can explain the process. Thanks again

I was considering doing this myself and changing the color of my valve cover. I'm guessing that surface prep is the key to a good, durable job. I will be doing the same steps as I did with my rims: sand with 320 grit paper, wipe down with surface prep from NAPA, prime, and then paint desired color. I'm going to see what colors VHT offers. IMHO VHT is the best engine paint on the market. I'll post up pics when the job is done.

I did this a long time ago. Just remove your valve cover, cover your head with a clean trash bag let the oil from the valve cover drip into a catch can for awhile. Then sand down the entire cover, clean it up with some paint prep. Once its ready for paint hit it with 3 base coats of primer. I used white engine primer to withsatand the heat, then let it drie for 15 minutes or so. Then hit it with as many color coats as you need to achieve your desired effect. Then finish it off with 2 to 3 coats of clear. I used high heat clear for this aswell. Mine turned out very good IMO. The only hiccups were the valve cover seal broke ( just fixed it with some RV sealant ) and when I got my clutch replaced they scratched the hell out of it, so now I am getting ready to redo it. I can post some pics later if you like.
