That's how we do most of our mazda transmissions. I just got done with one today actually. That's exactly how I did a tib trans also. RX8 engines are kind of like that but the engine is attached to the subframe so it comes out along with it. Using a lift is so handy though, now if we could just get our damn jack working again.

I congrat you on finding a new method. But I would like to point out that by not un doing the rack, Brandon and I were able to do a complete clutch install in 6 hours. No lift involved, car was just sitting on 2 jack stands.

it's not really a new method, it says to do it that way in the service manual.

That is NOT the way the Dealerships do that. I have witnessed every Evo transmission removal my dealership does, never have they remove the K frame/ steering rack.

That isnt true. I told you how they would remove it. I promise you if you talked to the tech that removed your trans, he will tell you that he didnt remove it that way. He can have your trans out in 3 hours with out removing the steering rack.

Oh, a lil of topic, but. Brandon told me your "offer" on my rail and injectors. I really hope that it was a joke because there is no where that you can buy a set of 780 injectors for $150, let alone the injectors, rail, and fuel gauge.

Will you try to rape EVERYONE with prices on used stuff, so yeah my little offer was far far from a joke, if the prices you even want are the ones being told to me. and yes i asked and they told me they did. And next time i just happen to stumble across a for sale thread for a set of injectors used for around that price ill pm you the site and the thread, and i didnt want that rail or the gauge. It was for the injectors only.

Back to the Orignal topic here, I know it can be done with out dropping the rack but when i did it on a 8 and couldnt get to that one bolt on the t case to save my life i just dropped the thing. Took hardly no extra time and the space was awesome. This was along long time ago when i did this but i didnt post anything about it because it seems like there so many haters on this website i try to just read and not post a whole whole lot.

it might not be the way they do it, but it is in the service manual. i'm a honda tech and the key to making money as a mechanic is shortcuts to save time, just because they don't remove it doesn't mean that it isn't the proper way. in the service manual it says to drop the steering rack just to remove the transfer case.

yeah i tackled a clutch on my boys hachi awhile ago and it took a lot longer than 6 hours, but we pretty much did it the worst way possible... ill never do the clutch on the evo if it seems to be this bad, why can't it be as easy as a firstgen.
