What did you guys use to put the transmission back into the car? I have a snap on floor jack, and it worked great gettting it out, but its not working well putting the tranny back in. Any ideas, or methods that you used?

I used an engine hoist and two ratcheting straps.

I just started on my clutch job tonight, have done many clutches in the past, but have a couple questions.

1. The transfer case will not completely un-mate from the transmission, will it completely unmate when I slide the transmission away from the Engine?

2. What is this Wedge Collar, and where is it on the clutch/trans??

Rear mount is a PITA and I left my gear wrenches at my shop, will see if I can get them to try to get the lower bolt out. I pulled the acd line and let it drain, will fill and bleed when finished. That being said got a lot done in 2 hours, look forward to getting this car back on the ground and running, seeing as I bought it today.

1. not sure why TC wont come out. Make sure you got all the bolts cause some are hidden. SHould come off before Trans is removed.

2. It's on the throw out bearing

Well... my friend who was reading the instructions while I worked checked off one of the steps thinking I had done it. I never did remove the driver side output shaft.. so that was the restricting part. I now read about taking it out, I just got it out with my slide hammer, came out like butter.

However I now wish I dropped the subframe cause Now that massive transmission is an absolute PITA to get out of the car. I released the throwout bearing, and as soon as I wiggle the transmission to get it off the TOB pops back in, every time it's frustrating. 3 hours tonight with a second person, could not completely unmate the transmission. Mainly because I have a fractured collarbone and cant do any lifting at all... Has anyone done this job with a TransJack?

basically shine a light up in there and put your flat head screw driver inbetween the tob and wedge collar and then push the fork arm to the passenger side of car and turn the flat head so its sideways and it will pop off. I did it in 15 seconds following that guide.

sounds like you're riding the fail bus. the TOB only goes one way, there are no special tob's.

The whole point of this t/b set up is to make it easy for installing the trans. You bolt up the trans and hit the clutch. That pops the t/b onto the input shaft of the trans. That locks it in place
