Can you verify the bolt thread? I believe the dealer part number for the RS Trunk Bolts is MS240303-edit it is for sure not ms240303.

Also the RS trunk bar (MR412407) looks to be $41.35 + $9.95 shipping from mitsubishiparts.net

 

it is10x1.5 for sure. length isnt important as the hole goes to the ground. anything longer than 17mm or so is fine.

I went to the hardware store and the m10x1.5 doesn't seem to be the right ones. I'm just going to order MS240129 from the dealer Monday.

 

The right bolt size for the RS trunk bar is M10x1.25. Just did an install and figured to post this up to let people know.

 

I've had one of these sitting around for several years. Is it worth the hassle of installing?

 

From what I have read they do much more on cars that have folding down back seats...less structural rigidity. Evos have the rigidity inherent to them so the rear STB don't provide much...if any...benefit. On my last car (SRT8) I noticed a nice improvement but it had the folding seats.

I'm all ears though!

 

My take on that bar is this. Mitsu included it for a reason. If there was no benefit from it, they would not have invested the time & material

If Mitsu is worth their salt, proper R&D testing would have been done ahead of time proving its worthiness.
If it had no worth, the bean counters would have deleted it pronto

 

If you already have it just install it, didn't take that long, plus you can enjoy doing an easy project on your car.

 

I gotta agree with MinusPrevious. New PNs are crazy expensive for an OEM. Please post feedback once installed, +/-, whatever.

 

Just confirming in here installed a RS bar today. Indeed, bolt size is 10 with a 1.25 thread pitch. 30 or 50 mm length work fine, also put #10 lock washers.

Have a rear shock tower Cusco Bar also installed. Can tell it does add extra stiffness for sure on a road test.

 

IMHO / As with any of the chassis braces, any unibody flex is probably measured in the .001 of an inch. Any perceived stiffness / change is likely our imagination

But, I do believe this, Those Mitsu braces were designed & tested & are there for high performance reasons

 

I've had one of these in my garage since I bought my Evo in 2006. I've always been fascinated by the notion that a brace in this location would make a difference. I guess I need to install it and feel the placebo effect for myself.

 

Makes technical sense to me that when the EVO is seeing track related stresses, these connection points move in space.

But, if the EVO is seeing these stresses, upgraded (not stock) trunk bars, lower sub frame bars & the front upper bars will be needed. The stock bars, are on the light duty side & likely flex when under high stress

Driving the EVO around the block & taking a few hard turns, one will never feel the diff

 

Don't know why I didn't read this thread until the end. The MS240129 bolts are too small at least for an USDM '05 regular VIII. The M10x1.25 is the correct size as noted above. This would have saved me 1 extra trip to the hardware store since the first time I got M10x1.5 .

Edit. Got this sorted out with Mitsubishi. The MS240129 is the correct bolt but apparently the vendor they are using to pack the parts made a mistake with the bolts I got. As in the part bag had the correct number, but the bolt was the wrong one. Long story short just go to the hardware store and save yourself the trouble
