quick question. Do you have to disconnect the ACD line in an Evo IX? Reason I ask is I just took out my tranny but I NEVER touched the ACD line at all. I just moved my T-Case over to the side since I took out the pass side axel. I'm not leaking any red fluid so I didn't F-up the line, but just wondering, why would you want to remove the T-case then?

you do not have to remove the T-case from the drive shaft, but you do have to remove the banjo bolt that comes out of the top of the TC because you cannot access one of the bolts that holds the TC to tranny without removing the banjo bolt. Bleeding the ACD system is actually pretty easy and can be done by one person with no special tools.

this is one of the most helpful write ups i have used, i have done 3 clutch jobs on evos, one on mine and 2 on others. This write up made it alot easier. btw in case it hasnt been mentioned a dent puller is a great investment for getting that input shaft out the first time. this write up saved me alot a money from having to take it to a shop

Please Help!

Just did my clutch on my evo ix mr. I went with a stage one exedy and their lightened flywheel and AMSoil for the xfer case and xmission fluids. It went suprisingly smoothly. The two and only real apparent problems I have run into though are that the VSS isnt working or at least isnt sending a signal to the speedo or the ECU (my turbo timer is tapped into the VSS wire at the ecu and it shows no real speed signal) and I am having trouble shifting into reverse (all other gears are fine).

First the speed sensor problem:
The VSS for the six speed has an induction style signal pick up. It does it not use a gear (NOT SURE IF THE VIII AND THE IX HAVE DIFFERENT METHODS or when it switched because evomotos pics showed a gear driven version). When I removed it it took some effort and then popped out quickly. Upon reinstallation i used the bolt to draw the sensor back in. The speedo didnt show anything but the rest of the cluster was in perfect working order. Yesterday I pulled it back out and the oring had partially sheared on the trans casing from going in crooked so i assumed it wasnt seated properly. I replaced the oring and used a block of wood and lght taps of a hammer to put it in straight because I couldn't push it in by hand, this time only using the bolt to align it correctly so i wouldnt hurt the oring. Still no speedo. All fuses are good both in the engine bay and under the dash.
ANY IDEAS??? The only Idea I could think of (other than using TOMTOM for my speedo haha) would be to raise the car off the ground unclip the harness to it and use a voltmeter to measure the signal after from the sensor in first gear so the wheels are moving. The battery would obviously be reconnected somehow out of the way as to get to the sensor. (Not sure if it will work though without a power source to the sensor but i figured it wouldnt need it and it would show the voltage differential if the sensor isnt broken).

There are no CELs showing up so I need some help diagnosing this ASAP.

(UPDATE: CEL came on with the code P0500- which my friend at the shop I am doing the work at said was VSS malfuntion or something to that effect. I just ordered it a new one from the dealership. Fingers crossed it will work)

For the shifting to reverse problem:

The only way i get into reverse is to find a sweet spot. I have to try moving the car forward a few inches and try reverse again to get it in gear. Before the clutch job I had to do the same thing every once in a while but the sweet spot was an huge and 80-90% of the time it worked first try now its more like I need to move four of five times forward before it will go in. All other gears are smooth. Sixth feels a bit tight but it goes in no problem. I adjusted the clutch pedal but that didnt really change anything that I noticed and again allother gears shift beautifully.

Can you get the bolt out to replace it (underlying question did you shear it or strip the treads of the hole). Also is it the bottom right of the six bolts connecting the tc to the trans or is it a bolt connecting the trans to the engine?

If it sheared and its stuck in the hole sometime you can get it out by using a chisel and create a groove in waht you can see of the bolt and use a punch or screw driver in that slot to knock it around until it unthreads unough to grab it with vise grips.

If the treads are stripped all the way through you can redrill and tap the hole to the next size up and get a bigger bolt.

If it is binding but in all the way you can use a tap I pretty sure the tc bolts are M12x1.25 threads. Also run a nut over the treads of the bolt you are using to ensure they are ok.

Hope this helped. not sure of exactly which bolt you are working with or if there is any room to do these thing while its all in the car.

(MY BAD JUST REALIZED THIS WAS FROM APRIL)

Just did my clutch install. I used this writeup and the evomoto and it wasn't to bad. Also used an engine hoist instead of jacks to raise/lower the transmission. We wrapped straps around it in a cross shape so we could rotate it. Made it pretty easy. Took me and a friend a week total, because I needed to order parts, but this could easily be done over the weekend if you have all the parts/tools.

Crows feet/ratcheting angle-able wrenches help allot with the bolts in the back near the tcase and motor mount.

Anybody have the part number for the select lever on a 5-speed, I think I bent mine a little and the shifting is a little extra notchy.

So my clutch is basically almost burnt out, and its the stock one in my Evo IX and now its starting to grind on 5th gear. What causes the gears to grind, it does it when its cold and when it warmed up. THis is my first Evo so I have no clue. anyone know and should i take it to the shop quick????
