EVO Clutch Install, includes t-case removal and service manual links
WOW I feel like an idiot. I just got it out with one slide. I've fought with this for two hours. The kicker is taking the TOB off only took me like 2 minutes to figure out! lol. Such as life I guess. Thanks for the quick replies.!
Just to confirm, the guy in the thread earlier is right. You CAN take the transfer case out with the engine and tranny in the car without dropping the cradle. As long as the front mount is removed and the rear tranny mount is unbolted. Rolled the engine back and held it in place with a ratchet strap. You have more than enough clearance to get the transfer case out..
question for evo 9 mr owners with th 6 speed... i am installing my tranny back into the car and it would be easier if the shift linkage bracket was removed off the tranny to give it more room to go back in. i come millimeters's to getting it back in and the shift link hits the top of the frame. any ideas how to remove it? or should i not....?

You might also try lower the motor a little more and/or swinging it more toward the front of the car. I usually end up having a board wedged behind the motor to hold it forward while pulling and reinserting the trans - that gives some more room for the trans to clear the power steering rack and the subframe.

This is alsmost mandatory with some upgraded turbos where there is not enough room between the turbo and the radiator to swing the motor really far forward.
wow me and my friend worked hours on end today and gave up.. i am hiring a very experienced mechanic to help me. i can't believe we cannot squeeze it back in there with out the linkage getting in the way even after we did what you suggested... and that helped by the way! we have even rotated it 90 degrees which also helped but it always seems to hit something. hmm
this is getting ridiculous though.

i have an updated "evo MR" specific clutch install guide i wrote up for this forum. Has a few tricks to get the trans back in. Took me and another 2 people one hour on the ground.
Best of luck!
I just got my clutch installed two days ago. Now my acd lights are on. All three lights are staying on. It is pissing me off, and making me scared to drive the car. And I hear clutch chatter now.
you need to properly bleed the ACD system. i wrote about that in my install/review above
Great write-up, halfnhalf83. Man, I'm fortunate to have a lift for these. I don't take off or disconnect half of what you mentioned, but can imagine that I would have to if I didn't have the lift.
