Change Tranny Fluid HUGE DIFFERENCE with REDLINE
This thread is really old, but still want to share my lastest findings about optimal fluid combo, readily available at your neighborhood parts store:
Transmission Oil: GM Penzoil Syncromesh (shifts are freakin' awesome now - good for internal brass and nice alternative to DiaQueen)
Transfer Case Oil: Mobil1 Synthetic 75-90W LS
Rear Differential Oil: Mobil1 Synthetic 75-90W LS - its already got the LSD additive in it

Transfer Case Oil: Mobil1 Synthetic 75-90W LS
Rear Differential Oil: Mobil1 Synthetic 75-90W LS - its already got the LSD additive in it
Transmission: Castrol syntorq 75w-85 full synthetic
Transfer case: amsoil severe gear lube 75w-90
Rear differential: amsoil sever gear lube 75w90
This is by far better than the redline i used to run. It would be hard to get into gear in 1st/reverse and notchy in 2nd with redline. This combo cured everything. Shifts extremely smooth now. I got the tranny fluid from Erik at Mil_spec and amsoil from Oil Doc.
if you are running the mr 6speed tranny please try this combo. You will not be disappointed.

I searched the Castrol USA website and downloaded the data sheet for SynTec Gear lube.
If I looked at the same product that you are using, I would get it out pretty quick. All I could find was a GL-5 Rating and your Transmission Requires a GL-4. GL-5 Does Not automatically supercede a GL-4 but does supercede GL-1 thru GL-3.
A GL-4 is used specifically where there are Brass/Bronze or Copper parts that come in contact with the fluid. Bushings, Synchro's
Please check this for your own good and the good of your wallet later on down the road.

I have shockproof heavy duty in my tranny right now but would like to drain it out and replace with a better fluid. What would you recommend using to flush it out as it is some pretty thick stuff?

He said the same thing I was thinking. The shockproof, due to being a petroleum oil forms a wax buildup in parts of the transmission. We agree that the only way to suitably flush the tranny would be to run the AMSOIL MTG which has Esters. Esters are a great cleaning agent.
Do a short cycle on the change interval with the MTG... say 5000 miles and then change fluid again with MTG.

Before I made a recommendation, I called my Tech Department and talked to the Senior Tech.

I'm using castrol syntorq LT 75w85 gl4 fluid not syntec gear lube. Here is the link that mil_spec advertises it on.
