Torque wrench question

I'm installing my walbro and the following text is from evomoto's install page (a great write up)

Once the pump assembly and retaining ring are properly seated, tighten the (6) 8mm nuts in a criss-cross pattern. Torque each nut to 23 in/lbs. Tighten the bolts before you reconnect the hoses and wire harness. This will keep the assembly from moving around while you push the hoses on.
I dont know if I can find a torque wrench to fit into that space, is this really necessary? What would be the advantages of using this? Can't I just tighten until they are firm?

Thanks!

+1 to the above...TIghten by hand, but do not crank on it! The studs are not that strong and will bust off if you over-torque.

I work for the Sears Holdings district. There is a one year warranty on torque wrenches. They are NOT lifetime guarenteed. However, if only the snap ring broke, I'm sure someone at the store might be able to repair the current one. It all depends on the model of the torque wrench. Basically, if something went wrong with the gears like a rachet can, it can be repaired.

23 INCH Pounds isn't even 2 foot pounds. No torque wrench that I know of is even capable of torquing something that small. Just do it very very lightly.

There are plenty, you just gotta get a torque wrench that's in incriments of in/lbs rather than ft/lbs. As far as the OP is concerned just snug them up nicely and you'll have no worries.

I tried this. My father in law who bought it for me said "take it back, there is a lifetime warranty on all craftsman." I took it in and they said sorry, it's been over 90 days or something. Basically, they told me to buy a new one.

Pissed off, i started asking around and other people said it should have a lifetime.

i wanted to ask around here to see what other people's responses were.

What! Usually sears are pretty good at warranty. Go to a differnet sears and tell them you got it last week from the same store. Tell them its the second time you used it and it broke. I broke my torque wrench (handle moved freely up and down, problay a broken spring), which i had for over a year and they still gave me a new one off the shelf. I had no recept, or any thing. Sorry for ot post!
