P0234 turbocharger overboost

i am new evo owner. my question is why is everytime i boost and then switch to nuetral comes to a stop the rpm drops below 1000rpm & sometime stall and you can see the gauge light dim. & in fifth/fourt gear when i boost more than 20+psi CEL turns on you hear a back fire. after scan fault code P0234 turbocharger overboost. i was told by sports import that my car is boostin more than 25+psi and my stock wastegate is not holding and needed an updrage. i am no expert & i need help from anyone who is knowlegable to tell me what is the real deal =)

thanks

What kind of BOV are you using? If you have a vta bov that might be your answer. Put the stock one or an evo 9 bov instead...

You can either port your wastegate to run more boost or run external wastegate

If u have your bov unrecirculated and blowing out into the atmosphere, that is y it acts like it wants to stall. In cold weather the car will stall more frequently. Put it back dumping into the turbo intake tube and that should fix that problem. Only other way to fix that problem is buy a device to tune it to run with the blow off unrecirculated such as hks eidc. If your boost gauge is going to 20 psi and stopping and u are not creeping upwards in psi then u have a boost leak making your turbo work harder.
