Fixing chipped clearcoat on wing.

For anyone that's done it, or has experience respraying clear coats. Do I need to get all the way down to the carbon fiber? Or is it enough to just remove all the damaged/chipped/detached stuff?

I don't want to get too close because I might end up taking some CF off, so leaving a tiny layer of completely intact clear should be fine, no?

I'd sand the remaining clear with 1500 or 2000 grit, then use a few coats of 2 part clear, 1500/2000 grit it, cut it, polish it, etc.

Well, I'm glad I got under your thin skin (for whatever reason).

And I've seen that thread. All it says is to sand down all the old clear. My topic asks whether this is really necessary, as in most clear repairs, you can roughen up the surface and respray, and in the case of chipped clear, just get the chipped stuff off.

Thanks for helping, though, and I hope you have luck getting that sand out of your vagina.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just suck it up and get all the old stuff off. Hopefully the layer of CF isn't too thin and I won't go through.
