HKS Type 1 Install w/HKS harness...

First off, thanks to Coolguy949. Thanks for the deal and ECU sheet!

Second I'm not responsible for your mistakes, use this guide at your own risk/expense.

OOOOkaaayyy.. This install is pretty easy. Just a bit time consuming..

What you need to do:

Disconnect NEGATIVE connection to battery in engine bay.
Remove driver's side lower portion of dash (opens up room)
Remove center consoles: Center piece w/gear boot and also the cupholder/armrest units
Remove glovebox to gain access to ECU wires.

Now we need to hook up the HKS harness. Locate the ignition plug (SEE PICTURE 1, RED BOX - PICTURE 2 SHOWS HARNESS INSTALLED)

Once the harness is installed, time to move on to the wire tapping.

Locate the parking brake wire, which should be clearly visible once the cupholder/armrest console is removed. (the wire might be taped) This wire is right at the base of the handbrake.

the GRAY wire should be the one for the handbrake, see HKS provided instructions to be sure... (SEE PICTURE 3)

Next locate the ECU wire bundles. Again, these are found on the passenger side, behind and below the glovebox. For the HKS Type 1 to make use of all it's features, the RPM and Speed Sensors must be tapped.

SEE PICTURE 4 for DIAGRAM and General photo.

(go to http://www.roadraceengineering.com/e...-ecuwiring.htm for ECU diagram only)

My HKS instruction indicate that the RPM wire is brown. Turns out that the EVO Ecu wiring is also brown. The two are very similar, this may help when you are trying to locate the correct wire for tapping. The speed sensor wire is located 3 wires away. See ECU diagram.

All the neccessary tapping and wire connections should be made by now. For test purposes, go ahead and connect the actual HKS turbo timer to the harness and ground the wire (black wire comming from TT). Reconnect the engine battery, and boot up. Everything should work properly here (click to RPM monitor on TT to see). If not, one of us made a mistake. Make sure everything is securely tapped, connected, etc.

If things work, go ahead and patch up the car. Mount the TT wherever you like, and BOOM. Turbo timer is ready to go with 100% of the features working properly.

Enjoy (edit: go ahead and post question/comments now! this is complete)

Have fun.

Closeup

It's nowhere near a match to the interior lights for a stock EVO, but oh well.. Looks damn cool.

Tip: You might want to get some velcro or a new piece of double sided tape for this. Mine is not sticking so well

Edit: Once the interior is reassembled, make sure you calibrate the speed and RPM features - they will most likely be inaccurate. see provided HKS Type 1 guide
