Modifying center panel?

Anyone has ever tried to move the HVAC controller to the head unit area and move the head unit area down to the controller?

Just wondering if anyone's done it. I would like to do it if I can.

I want to put the Pioneer AVIC-N1 but if I put it into the original head unit area, the display of the pioneer will be right in front of the a/c outlet and what I hear is that it will not be good since it will exposed to cold air during summer and hot air during winter.

If I put it to the gauges area, I'm afraid that the display will have minor interference problem with the shift knob, especially on 3rd gear.

Am I worried for nothing? just wondering...

The dvd player/screen in my s-10 was always in front of the a/c vent. i had no probs with mine, besides, after a few months, you are probably going to be like me and never have the screen out anyway. i always left it in while listening to the radio.

That is my plan. Do you know what kind of store/shop that can make a custom center panel? Appreciate the info.

My Panasonic Indash DVD was in front of my heater/AC vents and there were no problems. I think you will be alright.

That is pretty interesting and looks very good, only thing is you have nothing to cover it anymore.
