So how long does a full Zaino treatment last, really? And can you touch it up periodically without starting from scratch?

ABOUT TIME someone posted a Zaino thread on hear...all the other forums have way betetr wash n wax forums with people posting car wash results...good job with it.

Off topic, but I finally ordered all my stuff to for the 2005 season (I'm a part time detailer on the weeknds)...I bought basically the whole Zaino line, and tons more stuff (303 products, Pinnacle Souveran, MF towels, etc...)...the total? 555.30 ...I can't believe I convinced myself to get Pinnacle Souveran; for people who don't know what it is, it's one fo the most expensive waxes out there but it yeilds incredible results especailly after a synthetic polymer like Zaino. The price? 70 bucks for a little 8 ounce jar...

I used to use meguires/mcguires (sp?). But I've heard good things about zaino. And the fact that it's not a wax and someone did some test with 4 different products on 1 hood and zaino lasted the longest. According to instructions, street cars use it twice a year, more often if you want it to look good. I got the 'kit' which comes with the car wash and clay bar. So no you don't need to start over and you wouldnt want to. Since the first time you use dawn to remove any previous wax. After that, the more you do it, the better it gets. hehe. ahem. I had some left over (you dont save it you need to dump it out) so i did a 2nd coat on the hood and mirrors. I gotta say, it's slicker and feels more substantial than meguires. IL weather will tell the whole story later in the year..

the kit was right around $80-$100. can't remember, i got it last year and have been waiting for decent weather. meguires is like $12 per bottle. Figure it was time to try something different.

ok i have the zaino kit (yet to use) and im convinced it gives the longest lasting shine... my only concern is wax also protects the paint from the element... considering how THIN the zaino is even with multiple coat, im questioning how much protection it gives.

You should get more than 20 coats out of a bottle of Z-2...the site says the 8 ounce bottle does corvette 20 times....that's quite a bit of sheetmetal too...

I don't think the thickness matters too much (as far as the 'elements' are concerned), it's just something on top of the clearcoat (except for red cars). The clearcoat will do most of the job, the zaino protects the clearcoat I imagine. But wax.. well it's more susceptible so things like heat, cold, acids, etc, right? A paint sealer/protectant would seem to do a good job protecting, whether it's thinner or not. I don't know, I'm guessing, but once you put it on, then let us know. It feels better to the hand than wax.

I can atess that the zaino products are very nice. I've been using there products ever since I bought my Evo. the meguires NXT is nice to, but the zaino as a whole package is really nice. it's very time consuming the first time around. I spent something like 8 hours and only ended up with about 3 coats of wax at the end of the day. hand washed, hand dry, clay bar, hand wash, hand dry, and then we start on the coats of wax. each coat is left on the whole time your applying it. You apply one thin layer over the whole car. then you remove and start the next step... then finally you repeat till your satisfied or pass out from heat exhaustion or you arm falls off. which ever happens first... hahah...

I was wondering how Souveran would do over Zaino, since Souveran over Klasse AIO is such a hot combo now. You haven't tried it yourself yet? It'd be nice if there was easy way to strip Souveran without stripping Zaino, in order to apply more Zaino if desired.

Yes, Souveran is expensive, but it goes on thinly, and a can ought to last a couple years unless you wax weekly. Even though carnauba does grow on (palm) trees, the yield is low and there's lots of labor involved. And most cheap carnauba-based waxes don't have a high percentage of carnauba in them.
