Rich, dont you have the 8017 and James has the 7017? I know James said he wasnt happy with the 7017... graphics wise. I dunno you guys could better explain.

 

yeah, tom's right.....as far as functionality goes, the 7017 and the 8017 are basically the same, with the 8017 having a few extra features that rich, being the perfectionist that he is, needs....

asthetically, the 7017 doesn't offer much....the screens are very basic when it comes to playing cd's and whatnot. when you play a cd, or a cd full of mp3's as i do, it just has the screen that has the buttons for play, ff, rw, etc. or you can choose for it to display the artist, song name, and album....THATS IT.

as you can see in pics from the previous post, the 8017 has a lil more dressier screen, and as i haven't sat in rich's car for hours and played around with 8017, i can't tell you if its a huge diff...maybe rich could tell you that.

also, the kenwood cable ipod cable that lets you connect ur ipod to your HU is CRAP. the cable itself is fine, but playing songs through your HU is EXTREMELEY difficult and cumbersome, and its not even worth it.

so in summary, i got my 7017 for 870 shipped, brand new off ebay....and its a great quality unit but very boring as far as teh screens, no wallpaper and you can't upload pics or nething like that. if you're looking for screensavers and wallpaper, i.e. something snazzier-looking, look at another unit. esp since you're paying this much money for a HU, you should at least be happy to look at it.

just my .02. plus i'm installing a harmon kardon ipod led and control unit in my car so my HU isn't even really playing my ipod....ill post up a pic of that install tomorrow if anyone wants to see that...

whats a good double din unit that actually lets you control your ipod at ease? now thats what I really want, not intrested in navigation or anything like that mainly want a nice screen and ipod reliability any thoughts?

 

that would obviously make it a lot easier but the good thing about the harmon that i'm installing is the mini-screen looks just like an ipod and you can mount it in view of the road (if you like, im not doing that) and it has a remote control cirular knob that is basically the same as the controls on the ipod...thus you don't have to take your eyes off the road and you can control it in almost the exact same way.

i understand your question tho, if anyone knows of something like this let us know because i might be interested down the road to get something like that, esp if i get rid of my 7017 in favor of something that has a lil more flash to it....
