Finally did it..
update: we're changing some things around in my car for the kit, final pics will be put up as soon as possible. Install is going smooth, Rich is just being a perfectionist, hence the slight delay
okay, here's the scoop..
we've made significant improvements to our original protoype kit. as such, a second version (v2.0) will be the one we plan to release on the market.
changes
1. we discovered a way to turn this ridiculously difficult HVAC conversion into a simple, comprehensive HVAC relocation that anyone here could do in less than an hour (especially with the supplied illustrated instruction manual)
2. no relays are necessary and you don't lose ANYTHING (max a/c, etc)
3. you guys are going to looooove this: as a result of discovering point number one, we are going to be able to offer this kit for approximately 40% less than the previous protoype kit.. so instead of $495, expect it to be in the ballpark of $295
4. Instead of requiring difficult splicing of the factory HVAC harness with that of the original kit, the new kit (v2.0) will include our very own custom manufactured radio relocation kits to make this kit truly unique, highly cost efficient, and simple plug & play with your existing USDM HVAC controls - not to mention it will look totally OEM
now that i filled you all in with the good news, here is the bad.. these developments are going to push back the release date 5-6 weeks more. i am so sorry. i'll open up pre-orders on my storefront approximately 2 weeks prior to the release with initial group buy pricing for the first 50 people (intro price TBA on evoM)
i hope that our latest efforts address ALL of the issues that our evoM members brought up on this thread. with these improvements, everyone will have a chance to make their EVO or Lancer a truly reliable plug & play 2-DIN vehicle- at a VERY reasonable price
BTW- i'd like to thank james for letting us work with his car today.

awesome cant beat the new price and if its as easy as you say it is, might be able to do it myself and save even more money.....keep counting me in and good luck with this project
Just my .02....
I drove home after we installed the prototype customer kit on my car and all i can say is WOW...i almost drove off the road a couple of times cause I was too busy playing with the new touchscreen monitor i put into the 2-din slot...pictures really don't do it justice and it completely changes the interior of the car.
if you're looking to completely set yourself apart from every other evo out there (and make your interior look absolutely sick in the process...) then get this kit. I'd like to post up pictures but I'll do it when we finish the entire thing and it's the same kit that will be sold to everyone. So hang in there, pictures and final review coming soon....
ps, i'd just like to thank rich for all his hard work, donating my car for a day was a small price to pay!

If the newer style kit uses the stock HVAC, how will it face??? I saw a picture somewhere on evoM of a guy who made a fiberglass housing for the stock havc to be where the subby is but it was facing down and looked kinda crazy. will the OEM HVAC still face straight and up a little bit?? and look normal?
