Question Paint Problem

After looking over my new RS, the only thing I could find wrong with the car was this area of paint on the hood aft of the vent. Maybe the paint wasn't completely cured before the engine was fired up? Do I get the hood repainted?

If the car is brand new, it's the adhesive from the plastic white stuff that they put on the car to cover the major body panels when they transport. Try buffing it out with a good waxing compound and a buffer. If that doesn't work, you can try a clay bar. You can also take it back to the dealer and bi*ch about it. They'll probably have their body shop buff it out.

That explanation makes total sense. I will try the waxing and/or clay bar technique. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. Thanks!

Have the dealer take a look at it. If it's the adhesive, they can take it off for you. I'm surprised they didn't prepare your car before they gave it to you. Also, if it turns out to be something else... the dealer can warranty it, in the slight chance something happened before delivery.

yeah, the dealer prep was a little lacking. They also gassed it up at the station next door. I went over there, and they only sell 87 and 89 octane. I asked the manager about this, and he told me yeah they put 89 in there and that it wouldn't hurt anything. I almost freaked out, and then I almost cried; just kidding. But I was pretty chapped. Especially when they could have gone across the street and gotten the BP 92. Sales people should never gas up cars! I did read in the manual that it wouldn't hurt anything except performance so I'm over it. I am going to have them look at the paint today. I hope it is just the adhesive and that it comes right off.

Damn... Unless you got a great deal on your RS... return that back to that dealer and go someplace else that at least reads the damn manual! Just DO NOT ever take it back there for anything that reuires them to fix it.

I would have slapped him!

Don't wax it!!! use goo-gone or bug/tar remover first. It is prolly just the stupid glue crap from the plastic wrap they put over the car.

edit: i worked at a dealership.. if you wax it, it will only make it worse and harder to get off.. we use a cleaner called "body prep" made by automagic to get it off.. its similar to gasoline, but safe on fabrics and paint. It wipes right off with that.

You don't want to wax it first. This will only put a layer of wax over, what ever is on your paint. First, get some good rubbing compound (I use 3M) and rub that out. After that I would give the whole car a good polish.

Take it back, have them get the crap off, then ask for an inspection or something. 89 octane? That is NOT good. Not good at all.

update

Went to the dealer today. That area turned out to be scratched. I talked to the service manager, and they had tried to buff it out. They had notes on it and stuff so at least they didn't deny it. They agreed to pay to have it fixed at the body shop of my choice. They sure as heck weren't going to say anything about it unless I noticed though! So I'm going to get it repaired. I'm assuming they will have to repaint the entire hood, but I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Be careful who does the painting. These hoods are aluminum and you need an experienced body shop to mathc the red on an aluminum hood. I would pissed if that was mine, man!

they are right about it being from the shipping stickers, but it isn't glue. if you have ever followed an open car hauler on the freeway with new cars on it, you can see the stickers are not glued all the way down and they flap up and down. that causes small scratches like the ones that you noticed. if you inspect any new car very closely, especially on the roof, you will probably see some of those scratches.
