I think the issue here is shrinkage. I have been in the molding business for a very long time and I have to tell you, it shrinks in cold weather much more than metal. If you warm it up first it will fit better.
Dry fit it first (no tape) and check for fit. If it is too small, take it in the house to warm it up, dry fit again. If it is still too small, heat up the house some, let it sit for a while, dry fit again. When you get the temperature right, tape the sucker down.
